Went to see The Rakes -- who were fuckin' superb! Always a delight to cross the street and hear my name shouted by Jamie (bassist) -- I love that boy!

Anyway, there were three opening bands, yup...THREE! And, dammit, they were all pretty damn good. Though, I was already excited to see Every Move A Picture, band outta San Francisco. The third band was outta Boston, Protokoll. I liked 'em, lead singer reminded me of an hispanic shorter version of Andy, Wolfmother's singer. Chatted up Danny (bassist) and Ben (guitarist) after the show, who were quite nice. That's when I name dropped..."Hey! Do you guys know the Bon Savants?" "Ohhhhhhhh hell yeah! Those are great guys! We know 'em all!" And ranted on about how cool the BS'ers were. "How do you know 'em?" Erm..."a music messageboard..."

Just spreading the Obner band love in LA. :)

I met Thom (and Vicki/"Velouria") when they were in Chicago for the Wrens/Pilots show a year or so ago. Very nice guy (and gal).

I also name dropped the BS to some Boston friends (harris). Again, nothing but good things.

The singer from Protokoll is a dead ringer for Omar from the Mars Volta.

that showcase the rakes played at the cornerstone/fader party @ cmj last year was definitely an unforgettable moment. *sigh*

Yep, this Thurs. is the last night of the Residency (Charles Wren is playing the night with us). We're playing McCarren Pool with PGMG and Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) on Sunday. And then a show with the Editors later this month.

Those Pkoll guys are pretty swell, too. Jose is the name of the singer dude. He is a character...and very much a webboarder himself. They are doing pretty well for themselves already!

hey tania, I'm late to reading this, but I saw the Rakes in Portland as well. You're right, fucking amazing. Every Move a Picture also opened for them as well, and turns out my girlfriend who went me? Well, her husband used to work with their guitarist, who used to be in a local Portland band called Echoplex (horrible name, I know).

btw, I picked up the Every Move cd... lemme know if you want a ysi.

Glad you enjoyed, I know I had fun too! :)

Ooooh, so glad you enjoyed the show! I forgot to buy that damn EMAP cd -- I wouldn't mind a ysi, though. ;)

Should've name-dropped The Titanics instead.

I love that Rakes EP.

KPH, you live in Boston, but have a residency in NYC?
How long of a drive is that?

It's about 4 hours, give or take.
