BE. EXCITED. BE. BE. EXCITED.

Darren Aronofsky has finally finsihed his long awaited (by me) next film, I believe third. Not sure if PI and Requiem for a Dream were his only other two, but I believe so.

It's called the Fountain, and at this point, I am not too clear on the specific plot but the preview almost made me wet myself. Although that could have been from the initial ingestion of the 6 gallon 12 dollar cherry coke that I drank.

Definitely to be viewed on the bigscreen. I cannot wait either for the supplementary materials that are supposed to be released. Notably the graphic novel. For me, its this and Southland Tales as 2 of the most wanted to see films coming up.

Not to Hijack my own thread, but another movie you should check out the preview for if you haven't seen one for already is one called "The Prestige". It has Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman (again), Anthony Hopkins, Scarlett Johannson, etc. I believe it is done by the dude that did Y Tu Mama Tambien...but don't take my word on the director...that may have been a different preview...i can't remember now and am too tired to verify.

I posted about that the other day. It's done by Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins). It looks awesome. Also, David Bowie is in it.

Trailer here.

The Fountain looks kind of iffy.

Dammit. That's right. Christopher Nolan. I remember now. There was another movie I saw a preview for that is directed by the dude that did Y Tu Mama Tambien. I can't remember the name. Either way, they all looked pretty good.

Yep. That's it. I thought it looked good but thought that some parts of the preview were sort of mellodramatic. But, I will definitely be seeing this one too. Oh lord. There was this other preview too. A movie with Hilary Swank. A horror movie. Some devil child recreating the 10 plagues from the Old Testament. In the preview mom says, "Have you come to kill my little girl?" Hilary says with tears in her eyes, "No..." Mom says, "Why not?" Pretty cool little preview scene but the movie itself doesn't look too promising.

The Reaping. I just watched the trailer for it. Looks like The Omen: Damielle.

Looks OK. Those 2 trailers shiv posted look MUCH better.

Pi gets a B, but Requiem isn't that good. I see the dude has potential, but I am not rwady to anoint him or anything, HAQ.

Alright, son. :) You're gonna have to explain how Requiem isn't that good. I could go into multiple reasons why it was certainly one of the best films that came out in '99 and how Ellen Burstyn should have won the Oscar and not Julia Roberts for her portrayal in Erin Brokovich and on a technical side, Requiem was one of the best that year as well. But I am curious to know why you say it wasn't that good.

I am with Aaron that he is probably my favorite contemporary director right now. I think Christopher Nolan is a very close second. And I think that between PI and Requiem that PI is definitely the weakest of the two.

In relation to The Fountain itself, my friend was telling me that part of the delay for his next movie was because he and Brad Pitt got into a tiff over "creative differences" and Brad Pitt was originally to be in this film. Not only did Mr. Pitt back out, but because he did Aronofsky lost almost 100 million in budget money. As my friend put it, "D'oh".

I concur that Aronofsky and Nolan are the two preeminent contemporary American filmmakers around. Anything they do will draw ravenous interest from me.

I guess I don't have correct version of Quicktime or OS X, because I can't view any of these trailers. Fucking Mac.

Requiem might just be my least favorite movie of all time.

first time i saw it i saw only the last half hour.

imagine the confusion that would wrench out of a 16 year old boy.

lost and scared, but enjoying the shit out of the intensity of the situation.

needless to say, i am looking forward to this with great expectations.

pretty much everything about it. there were good acting turns (especially by Ellen Burstyn), but I mean the whole plot is so fucking thin (girls have sex with other men for drugs!!????) and seriously, a Wayans? I don't know, too many people think that flick is so outstanding, and I just don't feel it.

I can agree that the simple 'drug spiral' theme is a little unimaginative, although the credit for that goes more to selby than aronofsky. But I think it's a credit to the director that he was able to use a Wayans so well (at least I thought he did). Also, the use of color throughout really gets me, and the soundtrack is so great. Probably the most questionable element is the whole Tappy Tibbons hallucination sequence with Burstyn. It just gets a little zany for my liking.

Marlon can act, as can Damon. I don't see that as a singular feat. I am more with Cotton, I know so many people who find it great, and "harrowing," but it pretty much just annoyed me.

The whole "ass to ass" thing is kind of funny, but not any great revelation or anything.

I think Pi was good, just because it was reall intriguing. Not fully realized, but given teh budget constraints, etc..I was way more impressed with that than Requiem.
