Ani DiFranco announced she's pregnant while being honored for her contributions to the feminist movement at the National Organization for Women's 40th annual convention.

The 35-year-old singer said Friday she is due in February. The baby's father, Mike Napolitano, produced her upcoming album "Reprieve."

NOW presented DiFranco with the Woman of Courage award.

Latifa Lyles, NOW's vice president of membership, presented the award and called Difranco an inspiration, not only for her music but for her independent ideals. DiFranco founded her own record label, Righteous Babe, in 1990 after becoming frustrated with other music labels.

Past recipients of the annual award include Sen. Barbara Boxer (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., and playwright Eve Ensler. Difranco, a Buffalo native, is the first musician to receive the honor.

"Reprieve," a collection of a dozen songs and spoken-word pieces, will be released next month. It will be Difranco's 18th full-length album since her debut was released in 1990.

Yeah, she was married to one of her roadie/guitar techs/whatever. I believe the one referred to as Goatboy on Living In Clip. I saw her live once in the late 90's when they first started dating and all the lesbionic babes (basically everyone but me) booed him when he came out to do the mike check.

well, she IS my #1 favorite.
and it's not that bad. they're spaced nicely.
between all the albums and shows....i'm not broke.
(even with travelling pretty far to see her.)

There is no fury worse than that of a lesbian scorned. At work just the other week, I was running a concession register, and two absolute bull-dykes -- in fact, they appeared to be riders from DYKES on BIKES -- came up and asked for a complimentary cup of water with their popcorn. But, at finding out there are not lids available for the cups of water, they turned it down and started loudly bloviating upon the low caliber of customer service at the cineplex.
