Got a quick listen to Rather Ripped at one of the listening stations at my local Borders.

Actually, I made my kids listen to it first.
My little one thought it was "Good, Daddy..." but was in a hurry to go listen to the Muppet Show soundtrack CD instead (note to Sketch... he was ROCKING to that one!).

My oldest put on the headphones and instantly threw up the Devil's Horns and got into the air guitar thing.
"This TOTALLY ROCKS, Dad!"

I had a listen and loved what I heard too. This is definitely on the to-buy list! If the snippets pan out, this will be the best I've heard from them since Goo.

Your kids have good ears! I'm not a huge fan, but I love this album. Definitely one of the better releases of the year, in fact.

I'm not a real big Sonic Youth fan either, but this album is very, very good. Probable for my Top 10 at the end of the year.

It's definitely in the bottom half of their albums for me. I like "Reena," "Jams Run Free," and "Rats" a lot, and "Or" to a lesser extent, but the others are just kind of there. The middle section of "Turquoise Boy" is really cool though.

It's a good album. I like most of it although some of Thurston's lyrics are pretty embarassing, and that one Lee song is pretty ho-hum. "Do You Belive in Rapture" is unusually pretty for them, as is "Or", and I kind of like that.

is it just me, or have the last 3 albums sounded like Television.
I keep waiting for one of them to start playing the marquee moon riff.

That's funny because this album is the one most-orchestrated by their daughter Coco. I just read an article on them where Thurston says that, prior to starting work on the album, Coco said something to him like "Noise only sounds good if you're the one making it." so Kim decided "okay, we'll make an album that you'll like then".

Wouldn't quite say I'm loving it, but am enjoying it a lot. And noticing new things every time I listen to it
