Who do you play first and when?
Nebraska plays Louisiana Tech at 2:30 CST on Fox Sports Net on September 2nd. The last time these two played, Tim Rattay threw for 590yds and four touchdowns in a 56-27 loss to the Huskers in 1998. Troy Edwards had 405yds of receiving.

That's better than our opener: 9/02 vs. Montana. The following week is at Syracuse which I'm a little worried about. Sure they only won one game last year but they played a lot of teams close plus Iowa tends to start out slow (see: last years humiliation at the hands of the clones)

Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to the neb., ia state game. Last year's was a good watch. Almost as fun as watching them blow it against KU.

Kansas was due beating Nebraska, other than the Notre Dame/Navy series that was the longest streak of domination by one team. Up until Nebraska plays a few games, it is hard to tell how they will play ISU on the road. Most observers feel they will either lose to ISU or A&M on the road and finish 9-3. I personally think they would probably lose to ISU rather than A&M, since the Huskers seem to have the Aggies number

Penn State:
First game is at home against Akron. September 2nd at 3:30 EST on ESPNU (what the crap is that?). Feeling good about that one.

Next game is the following Saturday. Notre Dame at South Bend. I'd be happy with beating the spread there and at Columbus two weeks later.

Would be nice to win out after a 2-2 start, but there may be another hiccup or two along the way (Michigan at home, Minnesota or Wisconsin away).

Does anybody know where I can find a complete college football schedule by week? Sportsline still has last year's, and I'm wondering if there are any games before the 2nd and, if so, where they are.

Indeed. Now we just need all the old Big East teams (Pitt, 'Cuse, Miami, BC) back on the schedule. ;)

NAVY September 2nd vs. East Carolina

I'm also going to keep an eye on Arkansas this year, partially because of backs Darren McFadden & Felix Jones, and partly because the new offensive coordinator is Gus Malzahn, who was coaching high school last year.

It was actually Ron Powlus, but that is funny. 'Ol Beano will NEVER live that down! haha

If I have to choose between Brady winning the Heisman and ND winning the National Championship, there is no question I'll take the latter every time. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna be greedy and want both.

Also, Digger Phelps reminding the world everytime he is on TV that his Notre Dame squad ended UCLA's winning streak.

N.C. State home opener: September 2 vs. Appalachian State (2005 Div I-AA Champs)

Picked 5th in the Atlantic Division of the ACC.

We lost a lot on defense to the draft (not just our 3 DL who went in the first round), but we may surprise people with how good we will still be on D. Our corners are lockdown and are safeties are some of the best in the league. We have two solid DT and our replacement DE's should be able to get the same production between the 3 as we did with Mario and Manny last year. Linebackers are a little inexperienced.

Hopefully our offense can pick it up this year and we don't have to rely on our defense to win games.

Arkansas fans are getting pretty excited about this year. Hard to know what to expect with Malzahn running the offense and not knowing who will win out for the QB job (Casey Dick or Mitch Mustain), but with McFadden, Jones, Peyton Hillis and Marcus Monk, Arkansas should be able to score points pretty well.

Hopefully, the Hogs don't upset USC before Nebraska gets their shot at them, but they can take out a few star players before the Trojans play the Huskers.

Not a chance
Nebraska hasn't lost a home opener since they played Florida State in 1985. Southern Miss was the last non-conference team to beat Nebraska at home and that was during the awful 2004 season.

Top ten Defensive players of all time according to CFN
http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006 ... estion.htm

Peter Fiutak's list
10. Kenny Easley, S UCLA
Easley was the first player in Pac 10 history to be named first team All-Conference for four straight years. Considered one of the biggest hitting defensive backs of all-time, he finished his career with 374 tackles and picked off 19 passes.
9. George Webster, S Michigan State
He revolutionized the safety position. At roverback (the first ever to play the hybrid position), the 6-4, 220-pound Webster was a devastating hitter making 93 stops in 1966 to go along with ten tackles for loss. He was a menace in run support and still covered receivers as well as any corner. His speed was peerless for a player of his size.
8. Lee Roy Selmon, DT Oklahoma
Barry Switzer called him the greatest player he ever coached. Selmon made 324 tackles (amazing for a defensive lineman) with 40 for loss. In 1975, he made 88 unassisted stops.
7. Lawrence Taylor, LB/DE North Carolina
Taylor is generally considered the most fearsome pass rusher of all-time. As the ACC Player of the Year in 1980, he recorded 16 sacks while leading the team to an 11-1 record. He was directly responsible for beating Clemson and Texas Tech that year with his game-saving tackles..
6. Bubba Smith, DE Michigan State
Lost in all of post-collegiate accomplishments was his outstanding college career as one of the most unblockable defensive ends to ever play the game on one of the great defensive teams of all-time. Smith wasn't just a big player, he was really big for the mid-1960s (6-8, 280 pounds) and really fast requiring teams to use two, three and four players on him. In 1965 and 1966, MSU went 19-1-1 winning two Big Ten and two national titles.
5. Tommy Nobis, LB Texas
As the rock on the 1963 national championship team, Nobis was something special on both sides of the ball. He made dramatic game-saving and championship-winning plays as a blocker and a tackler finishing his career averaging 20 stops a game.
4. Deion Sanders, CB Florida State
Prime Time was the greatest corner to ever play college football. Florida State has enjoyed a who's who of sensational athletes over the years, but no one has been able to touch Deion's combination of speed, quickness and leaping ability. At just over 6-1 and 195 pounds, he ran a 4.3 40-yard-dash on a slow day and was the prototype corner and punt returner.
3. Bronko Nagurski, Minnesota
The 228-pound do-it-all star was bigger than life on and off the field. In the 1920s, he was larger than everyone else earning All-America honors at three different positions making his biggest impact on defense. How tough was he? Wearing a steel corset to protect two broken vertebrae, he beat Wisconsin by forcing a fumble which went for a score and a 6-0 win. The best defensive player in college football now wins the Bronko Nagurski Award.
2. Dick Butkus, LB Illinois
Linebacker is the glamour defensive position in college football, and Butkus is considered the best to ever play. It wasn't just the 373 tackles he made in his career, it was the way he made the stops as the most unblockable linebacker college football has ever seen. Setting the standard to which all other linebackers are measured, the Butkus Award now goes to the nation's best linebacker. He finished third in the Heisman voting in 1964.
1. Hugh Green, DE Pitt
Few linemen have ever possessed Green's mix of quickness, speed and athleticism. With long arms and superior strength, Green played bigger than his 222 pounds while his feet were so good that he could've been a decent cornerback. He finished his career with Green 441 tackles and 53 sacks

Richard Ciriminiello's list is essentially the same but with Nobis ranked higher and Ronnie Lott included instead of Nagurski.

Since I've got nothing else to do and I'm obsessed with CFB, I just wanted to tell everyone that Nebraska is going to have atleast 45,000 fans in LA for their game against USC. That's about how many they had when they took over Notre Dame's stadium a few years back and a little less than what they had the year Nebraska lucked its way into the Rose Bowl.

As for the first week of games, these seem like the most intriguing games to watch.
8/31
Northwestern vs. Miami, OH, first Wildcat game since Walker died unexpectedly and former Northwestern Defensive standout Pat Fitzgerald took over as coach.
Toledo vs. Iowa State, both teams went bowling last year. Iowa State needs to win this game to have the breakout season some people are expecting.
9-1
Nevada vs Fresno State, a huge WAC battle for the first game of the season.
9-2
LA Tech at Nebraska, The Bulldogs had a respectable year last year but got screwed out of a bowl, Nebraska finished last year on a high note and could make a title run this year with some luck.
Rutgers vs. North Carolina, The Scarlet Knights went to their first bowl in a long time last year and former Husker Joe Dailey might be UNC's QB and he's from Jersey
Northern Illinois vs. Ohio State, the Buckeyes need to stomp the Huskies to make a statement about their title hopes, the Huskies are the type of team that can really make BCS conference teams eak out a victory.
California vs. Tennessee, If the Vols lose, Fulmer is going to be fired by the end of the year. Cal would really aid the Pac-10 by knocking off a supposedly strong SEC Opponent.
USC vs. Arkansas, USC still has a ton of talent, but a young QB could really struggle against a tough SEC opponent that is trying to prove how good they really are after a crappy season last year.
9-4
Florida State vs. Miami, both teams are suppose to be dominant defensive teams. Florida State's offense is suppose to be much improved. FSU can afford to lose a close one and still do well the rest of the year, Miami cannot. If the Canes loses, Coker might be out by the end of the year.

Arkansas's chances of beating USC took a hit when RB Darren McFadden underwent surgery on his toe and will most likely miss their home opener against the Trojans.

It's impossible for Rutgers to compete for a National Championship for a long time coming, but taking AZ state to the last possession in the Insight Bowl was a huuuuuuge deal for the fans and the program.

Couldn't resiste the -jack, well stated.

The RU QB situation will be interesting to watch as it unfolds. Soph. Mike Teel had a number of reps when Ryan Hart was injured last year, but threw a ton of ints--too green? did he learn enough over the off-seasion? and can he hold of transfer Domenic Natale who becomes eligible next year?

RU's backfield is wicked strong this year--Brian Leonard is on the Heisman list, albeit in the 60's, but still, this is Rutgers, and Soph. Ray Rice . Clark Harris is talked about as being RU's first ever first-round NFL draftee (this in the same year that Quincy Douby got drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft).

34 Days until Nebraska's first game, 32 until the season actually begins if I got my math right. I can't wait. I'm trying to get my fix through reading stuff on the Huskerpedia BBS, but it isn't working.
I would have loved to been able to watch a game last night.

I've said this before Bilz, but I think its a crime and a damn shame that Rutgers doesnt compete at a higher level in College FB just based on the talent in New Jersey alone.

They need to send their coaches to intern with SEC schools to learn the finer points of 'cruitin.
