Well?

One night a friend convinced me to wait outside all night for Kiss tickets in front of a Sportmart.

Chicago. In fucking November, mind you. From like 11pm to 10am the next morning. And this was before all that global warming bullshit or buying tickets online. I very nearly died of frostbite, and for what?

This?

Image

A month later we went to the concert only to find that we had tickets in the 8th row...all the way on the right.

RIGHT IN FRONT OF A GARGANTUAN WALL OF SPEAKERS.

A special no thanks goes out to that fucktard Ted Nugent for screeching at the top of his lungs. I was deaf for seven days after that.

I've just never gotten the love for them. Isn't it all nostalgia based?
I've never really done anything desperate for music, so I can't contribute any further to this thread.

Only only somewhat extreme thing I've done is drive 5+ hours to see some particular bands.

Drove from Cincinnati to Chicago with a buddy to see American Music Club and drove back that night. I was so knocked out that I drove back up to Detroit the next night with a different buddy. Totally great.

I'm driving a considerable amount farther than that (and then back the same night) next week to go see Tom Waits, and I'm not really even all that excited about it. I probably won't be doing much besides sleeping the next day though.

i wouldn't call it desperate, but i've flown to the other side of the country for a show. i was in the city for maybe twenty hours, only because i couldn't get an earlier flight that morning. the show was awesome.

and the converse of rami's post: i stood out in a parking lot in the broiling sun on a saturday in july for tickets to a show. little did i know, there were two other huge shows going on sale that weekend. it was kinda crazy.

I've done my fair deal of flying and driving to far away cities to catch a show. Take one guess who it was every time...

I used to fly to New York for the sole purpose of catching shows:

Dictators & Fleshtones at CBGB's
Ike Reilly two nights over St. Patrick's Day
Stan Ridgway
etc.

You did try to leave. I made you come back.

Please don't dispute and take that feeling of power away from me.

Nope, won't do that...

I'll just chalk it up as one more thing you owe me for... :D

Barry was on a daytime talk show not that long ago, and I really remember enjoying his live show. Shit, Elton John's "Inside the Actor's Studio" episode is amazing! He'd probably be worth catching en vivo.

I drove from Chicago to Moline to see Prince once, and hustled up a hotel room the same night.

I've flown to other states to see shows. And while in other countries, made it a point to see shows while there.
