This is too funny. Here's a link to the mp3 of the dialog.

I heard all this live--pretty damn funny.

What's worse was this NY Post (or maybe Daily News--whichever one is a shill rag for Hoo Hoo Howie) writer who totally slammed O&A for "ambushing" Siegel and said they needed to do more background research before doing things like this. The writer had no idea that it was actually Kevin Smith who was doing most of the talking, not O&A.

His myspace acct is pretty cool, because he keeps fairly up to date blogs on this stuff. He blasted that writer about the 10,000 names things as well. I'm glad he actually stands up about shit. I mean critics will be critics but most of the movie going public thinks their shits anyway.

Fairly funny.

But this is why I cannot listen to this type of personality-driven talk radio. So much fucking repetition and obvious time-eating.

Just make your point and move on. How many times do they have to say "it's rude" or "it's unprofessional"? Like shooting fish in a barrel - over and over and over.

Kevin Smith is funny, although it seems that he's taking Siegel's walking out a little too personally. I mean walking out isn't THAT big of a deal. How long does it disrupt the crowd? The three seconds it takes them to look over and then turn back to the screen?

Well he didn't just walk out. If you listen again you'll hear him admit to to not only walking out, but saying "This is the first film I've walked out of in 30 fucking years", or something to that effect.

He did drop the f bomb though. Which I would say is pretty unprofessional.

I know, but if I was sitting in a theater and someone stood up and said that I'd look over, chuckle, and then go back to watching the movie. It's not like he led a revolt of critics out into the lobby.

So you don't like your radio personalities to have...personalities?

I mean, it's called TALK RADIO for a reason. They're ovbiously trying to keep the conversation going.

I'm guessing that's not the point. He shouldn't have said anything at all. But since he didn't, people noticed and word got back to Smith.

It wouldn't have meant anything to me either, but I'm not a critic or a person who gives a shit what Joel has to say.

I'm not disagreeing with you or anything, it just seems a little childish of Smith to go so far to get Siegel and others to admit "you're right and I'm wrong." I mean he's talking about Siegel acting like a high school student...couldn't he have ignored Siegel's comments just as easily as Siegel could have walked out quietly?

Agree with Kevin Smith's point here. Siegel is a douche.

Siegel is a douche, but I agree with VI on this one.

Well, you have to look at it for what the event was - it was a screening for other critics. Seigel could and should have just stood up and walked out and said nothing, if he was so offended, then written his piece to say why he was so offended. Instead he felt the need to make sure everyone in the theater knew that he was offended and that he was leaving. It was totally disrespectful - not only of the other critics but of the film and of film itself. You just don't do that, not when you're a critic - you're supposed to have a respect for the genre where you wouldn't treat it that way. He obviously doesn't. He just wanted to draw attention to himself. He did, and I bet he thought it was a clever thing at the time, like he must be saying what everyone else was afraid to say. And I bet he really regrets it now. The man looks like a complete tool. Who, besides the super uptight who are already offended by Kevin Smith, is actually going to take Seigel seriously now (and who did anyway?)

Exactly the point. Smith's position is also that these critics get into these screening for free which at least means they should behave themselves, and that in order to review a movie one should watch the whole thing not to mention purport oneself in a professional manner.

I guess I don't like talk radio then. If talk radio is just yammering about the same goddamn point over and over. I got it the first five times. It's so obviously a time-filler. Much more difficult to plan a show with, you know, substance.
