I'd never heard of this musician or album before tonight, but apparantly he's a cult hero. Most of his music is out of print now, but I heard this song for the first time tonight and thought it was amazing. I did some research and he died in 1984.

Have you heard of him before? After this song, I want to hear more!

Jimmie Spheeris - I Am the Mercury

Jimmie was quite a performer for a brief period of time in the early 70's. I Am The Mercury is exquisite. Not sure if any of his few releases ever made it to cd, which is a damn shame. I have Isle Of View (where I Am The Mercury showed up)and The Original Tap-Dancing Kid on vinyl. One of these days, I'll get off me ass and transfer them. He died in weird circumstances, some sort of automobile accident- I forget just now. I saw him a couple of times in Gainesville in the mid-70's - he was an engaging and talented artist.

Jimmie Spheeris is one of the most underrated songwriters of the seventies. 'Isle of View' was his debut album back in '71. He passed away when he was hit by a druck driver on 7/4/1984. Rain Records is an organization brought into existence by Jimmie Spheeris fans. This company and Sony had a falling out. Thus, all Jimmie Spheeris CD's are out of print. The 'Original Tap-Dancing Kid' & 'Dragon is Dancing' are both good, but they're not of the same ingenuity of 'Isle'.

PM for a YSI-
