I could've swore they broke up after the suck that was Slow Motion Daydream.

But I just happened to flip to Leno for some reason and there Art was. I didn't recognize the other people and couldn't tell if it was Craig and Greg or not.

They played a song called 'Hater' which sounded like old-school Everclear and featured a "look like a whore" reference.

So what's the deal?

I have no idea what they're doing now.

I can say I've seen them twice.

They were meh.

I looked at their myspace page. Looks like all the band members are new except for Art.

I was obsessed with them throughout junior high. I was obsessed with a lot of alternative rock/post-grunge music at that time, though. Everclear, Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, Marcy Playground...

I did see them live just I think the year before they broke up, though, and they were so bad. His vocals sounded terrible. So much so that I couldn't listen to the albums anymore. It ruined it that much.

I could probably again now though, now that that's all a memory.

I liked a few Everclear songs...even though they all pretty much sounded the same.

Nah they'd still have to "turn down the suck", so to speak.

Even if i had an Everclear song turned right down so i couldn't hear it, i'd still be uncomfortable.

Never before has there ever been a band that had more hit records with the same song. You have a few groups that use the same chord progression and similar riffs, but my god, every Everclear song was nearly identical.
They are the musical equivalent of Derrick Zoolander.

I could put together a 30-45 minute comp that I would enjoy.
They had some good songs.

I agree, especially off the first couple of records.

If so,...

I have an everclear "collection" on my ipod, where I weeded out the crap from the first few albums. The list looks like this:

Heroin Girl
You Make Me Feel Like A Whore
Santa Monica
Normal Like You
Summerland
I Will Buy You A New Life
Strawberry
Father of Mine
Heartspark Dollarsign
the Twistinside
Her Brand New Skin
Nehalem
Queen of the Air
Pale Green Stars
Chemical Smile
My Sexual Life

I've always had to consider Everclear a "guilty pleasure", because most folks kind of dismissed them or rail against them because of their singles and quazi- popularity back in the nineties. I was guilty of it too, the first time I saw the video for Santa Monica, I thought Art looked like a loser and I wondered what these wanna-be's were doing with a recording contract. For some reason, I later gave them a chance and found myself really enjoying some of the songwriting. They do have some great hooks, and Art used to be capable of some really powerful, moving lyrics (Queen of The Air, Father of Mine).

I think Everclear was best discovered as a pop band, without seeing the videos or having been exposed to the "punk" push their label tried to give them back in the day in order to cash in on the success of Green Day and the like.

That's my 4 cents.

I endorse this post.

and, I don't see how, in a vacuum, you would not like Santa Monica.

'Santa Monica' and the first three seconds of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' are the only things I ever learned to play on guitar.
