on spike tv. and i gotta say, its pretty shitty. problems include:
1. useless characters.
get bill murray out of it, he's no use to the plot. harvey dangerfield basically took his stand-up into the movie. chevy chase has yet to do anything interesting (or funny, for that matter). and who the hell is that irish chick? all these superfluous characters impact, though, is minimized by the next problem
2. where the hell is the plot?
jesus christ. i mean, is he trying to get into college? then what the hell is the point of having tension between harvey dangerfield and the ted night character? and whats the point of having michael o'keefe's character have a boner for ted nights niece?
3. this movie ISNT funny
i have yet to laugh at anything plot related. the only thing that makes it worth watching is harvey dangerfields awesome one-liners.

Um...

Watching Caddyshack on Spike and pointing out holes in the plot is akin to looking at a nudie magazine where all the girls have bars covering their "naughty parts"...

There are probably entire scenes missing that would greatly enhance your ability to enjoy this movie. I say rent/borrow/pay cable channel it and see if you come to the same conclusions...

P.S. Everything makes sense in the end, kinda like most M Night Shamalamadingdong movies...

It's plot is relatively simple. A loudmouth nouveau riche jackass invades an old money country club and annoys the hell out of the stuffy leader of the old money members. The secondary plot line is a young caddy whose trying to get in good with the old money people so he can afford college and help his family, but he realizes that challenging the rules and being unconventional in the same way the nouveau riche guy and Chevy Chase is more fun.
Plus, this movie has so many classic lines. It is arguably one of the best sport movies without much sports involved in it.
Ted Knight is unbelievably funny as the bad guy, who isn't really that bad.
It is one of Chevy Chases's best performances and both Bill Murray and his brother are excellent.
More or less watching this movie on basic cable makes it suck.

I watched "Strange Brew" in college with a friend who had never seen it. I was talking it up about how awesome it was. Man was my memory wrong. That movie was dumb beyond belief. It's a wonder what 7 years later can do to your sense of humor.

You dig some stuff just out of nostalgia. Going in as an adult probably isn't going to work.

Caddyshack remains one of the best movies ever made.

There, I said it and I stand by it.

Caddyshack without Bill Murray???????

Um...that's Caddyshack 2. Shudder.

IMDB says Sarah Holcomb only did four films because she was hooked on the drugs n booze.

And the movie's not about plot. It's about stupid people who think they're superior to other stupid people.

Beauty.

BTW...if your local NBC affilliate runs the "Classic" SNL reruns on Saturday nites ( they usually come on right after the "current" episode ) , tonite's show is one that Dave Thomas & Rick Moranis hosted ( pimping "Strange Brew" if I recall correctly ) .

What is Spike?

And how does watching a movie on cable make it suck? Why are there different versions of the film?

I don't get it...

American tv tends to cut out anything questionable. Spike is a basic cable channel that while people pay for it, still censors films. Don't ask me, I don't get it either.
