...but I'm ressurrecting the Meadowlands debate.

Listening today, it is really hitting me for the first time.
I always thought it was a good, but not great album. 3.5 to 4 stars certainly, but nowhere near deserving the hyperbole being heaped upon it by various boards and posters.

Now...

It's amazing.
The songs must have just needed some time to sink in or something.

Cerainly not groundbreaking, but the songs are so powerful, so full of emotion, and they're finally hitting me right in the gut.

Amazing.

Finally getting what all the hyperbole was about.
2 years later.

Still a big fan, especially after seeing them live in March.

Is there anyone here who heard Seacaucus first and still prefers The Meadowlands over it?

Ill add something similar since 1) Im sure no one else will care 2) I know you mentioned a similar reaction

Listening to Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain (by strategy) again today- and this album is just tremendous- I love the running/slicing guitar and drum intro on 'Third Uncle' and of course 'The Great Pretender'. Man what an album

anyhow, I go back and forth on Meadowlands, and the Wrens in general- I havent really listend to them since I saw them live in Detroit and wasnt too impressed.. but I sure I will go back to them at some point.

To be honest, I've never really listened to it. Maybe once and I remember thinking it was pretty good.

How's about a YSI?

I should listen to this again. It's been collecting dust for at least a year now.

My general feeling about it was that it's very good but not great. I like it a little better than Secaucus, and I think I heard them both at around the same time.

I've always found The Meadowlands to be a tick or two above meh. I'd give it like a 7.0 on the PFM scale, or thereabouts.

Yes. Although, they really are two different animals and both are great.

And I just changed my Obner Charts ranking for this one, from "7" to "9".

The Meadowlands really sunk in for me as one of my top 10 of all time once I saw this band live.

It's had the opposite effect for me. I loved it when it first came out, now I can take it or leave it. They are one of the better live bands out there now however.
