I've toyed with the idea of getting the NY Yankee logo on my calf for abut 20 years, and every tie I think I am ready to pull the trigger and get it done, a sense of reality hits me and I ask myself, "Arent all the t-shirts , jerseys , and baseball caps I have enough to show my love and support? Do i need to put it on my body forever?"

and i am tattoo free still.

If you got that NY Yankee tatoo, Steinbrenner would relocate the team to Nebraska.

how ridiculously condescending you are.

No, I don't think you've really actually thought about this, honestly, and your hyper-defensive response spells it out pretty clearly. You wouldn't be so defensive about this if it were a well thought-out and meaningful decision. But hey, if you love anchors that much, please do make sure you get one added to your body.

I like that people get tattoos added to parts of the body that they themselves never have to look at. How often do you see the back of your neck? If you feel so strongly about anchors, Fickerson, why not have that puppy etched on your shoulder, where you can proudly check it out every time you look in the mirror, or just glance down at your shoulder? Why hide it behind you where you never see it? That's kind of a waste, isn't it? I mean, if the tattoo is for you, then shouldn't it be where you see it all the time?

so, apparently i am hyper-defensive because i don't care enough to explain to a stranger on the internet why something is important to me, especially when i didn't ask for his self-important, hyper-agressive opinion.

you don't know anything about me, and i'd appreciate it if you would kindly fuck off.

You're still landlocked. Care to explain to me, just out of sheer curiousity?

And I've got a big un. Right across my clavicle. Shoulder to shoulder. And I waited till my mid 20s, and i'm glad I did, but that's me.

I'm all for people doing whatever the fuck they want, especially with body mods. If you want it, you'll wear it well. But I do know alot of people who regret shit they've got inked, and i feel bad for them.

Oooh. Oooh. I bet I know why you want that anchor tattoo. To anchor you to something, no? You've been blessed with a life of adventure and Good, but you've never felt tied-down to a place... The peril of wanderlust. With the tattoo, though, at least you can anchor yourself to yourself.

That, or you're boy is a merchant marine.

there are a few reasons. aesthetically, i have a design and i like the way it looks. also important is what the symbol means to me both literally (given my mild obsession and extensive academic study on all things maritime) and figuratively (feeling anchored in my life, etc etc).

i have wanted different things in different places, but i've always waited to see if i would grow out of that particular phase - that's why i'm nearly 25 and still tattoo-less. this one, however, has stuck with me long enough to make me as sure as i can be that i'll still want it in the future.

Hey! Back off on the criticism if you don't have any.

Now, if you are tattooed and/or pierced, fire away.

I mean, Obner is nothing if not an Experts's Corner....

Tats and holes are one thing, but those demon lumps and scar tissue sculptures point towards some deep mental disturbances.

I guess our opinions and advice don't matter to a teenager. I am officially old.

I'm fine with belly button piercings. But leave the nipple alone. It's a work of art. It needs no further augmentation.

Nope, we're all perfectly qualified to offer opinions whether we have them or not. Otherwise, the opinions are one-sided and therefore worthless.
