...or the Miles Davis album, though I am dying to pick up the box set on that. The PBS thing that's been on lately has kept me far more interested than any Ken Burns film since the Civil War one. It's amazing to me to hear about how big a deal this was at the time while he's mostly unknown 100 years later. I would know nothing about him if not for the liner notes to the Davis album, but needless to say this 2 part series has set me straight on the man and the legend. Also, it has filled me with more white guilt than dropping acid and watching Roots 5 times in a row ever could. excellent!

I saw a glimpse of that. Being black, and not really seeing people in "colors",if you will, alot of those kinds of documentary basically have the same equation:

Da White Man= :hellfire:

So while the Jack Johnson one was informative, it still gave me the same feeling. That and I didn't even know there was an actual term for racial mingling, WTF?

I've got other issues to deal with.

But, it's the hook to a Soul Coughing song. Like, Ever since then, I got miscegenated; Ever since then, I got miscegenated; Ever since then, I got miscegenated; It's a self-fulfilling pro phe cy

I liked this documentary, although I felt like they were manipulating the audience a bit. They would say things like "Johnson pummeled his opponent..." while showing video of him and the other fighter hugging.

He was definetly important, though. Would he be considered the first African-American superstar? Who would have come before him, if not?

Don't front on Al Jolson*.

*Until I was fifteen years old, I was under the impression Al Jolson was actually black.

yeah like his blatantly AL supportive Baseball series. And the man thinks the Marsalis family invented jazz.
