so i think i'm finally going to get rid of the shitty satchel i've been carrying around for like 6 years now (it's held up for very well, considering i bought it for like 10 bucks at an army navy surplus store).

anyway, surely some of you carry messenger or laptop/dj bags. anything you'd reccommend for both function and style? also, is it neccessary to get a messenger bag made in your hometown? (i feel like i only see brooklyn industries and manhatten portage in nyc)

some of the stuff here seems pretty cool: www.chromebags.com

I have the Crumpler Very Busy Man, which has a padded laptop sleeve that fit my 17" laptop, and was great for strapping on on my bike. however, they may have stopped making it and it's not real adult looking. Now I'm thinking about picking up one of these:

I have one made by Da Kine...I love it, it still looks new after 5 years, but I think I want a leather one or either a briefcase or something equally terrible/adult.

i have an older dickies bag which held up pretty damn well, but for larger loads [i bike most every day] i use a manhattan portage bag - they make them with/without laptop sleeves already built in. very durable.
timbuk2 bags are insanely expensive & unless yr willing to drop some serious bank on a messenger bag, i'd say the manhattan portage bags work great.

f4df, i'm addicted to bags, too. i have about 30 of them.

my messenger bag comes from queen bee and although it's kind of girly (not all are girly), it's the sturdiest mofo out there.

i've actually found some pretty cool bags at cb2, the crate and barrel for modern, less traditional folks.

30 BAGS? I think that I have 4 because 2 were given to me by work, and it's 3 too many.

I have a messenger bag and am constantly having it referred to as a purse and being made fun of for it.

I don't get it.

I have a messenger bag AND a purse and I am often made fun of for it...but frankly I don't care...

The purse keeps my pants from falling down because I carry too many keys, a cell phone and a fat wallet(not fat from having any money in it mind you). So in reality instead of teasing me, most people should be THANKING me for not having to look at my big pasty white a$$ hanging out :)

It's olive green and has pins from the Modern Lovers, the Replacements, and Ramones.

One of the guys at work said he was laughing at me about it because I don't have a computer. I said "well, I almost always have on me a notebook, a paperback, a discman, two or three cd's, wallet, and keys" so how else am I supposed to carry it around and he made some snide comment about how he just carries it in his pockets.

Right.

Thanks Fu, your thoughts would be more applicable to me anyways - As I already wear a belt - I just can't bring myself to wear suspenders - and a Murse, as I like to call it, just seems to fit my personality so much better.

Actually in person, I all but dare people to tease me about my bag as I'm basically as big or bigger as most NFL Offensive Lineman, but am not quite in as good of shape ;)

I gave away several bags to my sister for her garage sale. They weren't anything special, I'm more of a backpack guy, using it for my commute.

Of course, the next day I was in Tower, and they had a Dickies bag marked down from $30 to $8 and I hadda have it.

Check your local Tower- maybe they'll have the same deal.
