So I got back earlier from my trip back to northern Ontario to visit the family. Good times were had, it's a great place during the summer; I brought back as much booze as my shitty little car could handle as the selection around these parts is horrible. God bless the LCBO. Overall, the round trip was about 3100 kilometres. Below are a few pics (few more here) from the trip, mainly I did a lot of bbqing, drinking and driving, sometimes all together.

What's new around here? Gimme the highlights, lowlights and the glorious middle.

My first Labatt's 50 in about a year. Truly awesome.

Image

Grilling up some blue cheese burgers on the Smokey Joe. Dad just got Sirius radio for the truck, so I had it tuned to 'Outlaw Country' which was just fucking great.

Image

Somewhere in Factor Lake, on a boat fishing for walleye.

Image

Sunrise at about 430am somewhere in Northern ON.

Heading towards a massive prairie storm.

Man, that is a good beer. Almost surprisingly. I had a big 710 mL bottle the other night. I couldn't find a picture to rub it in, so I've posted the above instead.

Where in North ON were you? I can't find Factor Lake ...

It's seriously my favourite beer, the perfect summer drink. I brought back two cases with me and would have brought more if lack of room hadn't interfered. My brother-in-law was also at home (Atikokan) and when he heads back to work on the rigs in AB (he drives and lives in a converted greyhound bus aka The Finnabego) he's going to bring back 5 or 6 more for me.

Factor Lake is about 30 km southwest of Atikokan, the family has a cabin on it, so we logged a quite a bit of time on that lake. Really nice spot, the walleye was absolutely perfect, maybe the best I've ever had, although it's been so long since I've had fresh fish like that it's probably a bit of hyperbole on my part. It really was great fish though.

The Podblast was awesome and I can't wait to hear what Bloor's going to be doing with it.

I tried to record a snippet of myself telling him how to say LaMontagne and then post it on Hip D, but haven't been able to figure out how to do that on Garage Band yet.

I have great ideas. I also have poor execution.

I rubberbanded my cordless phone to a microphone the other day in an attempt to test whether I could take "calls" on the air.

Awesome pics, Chuck. That sunrise kicks major ass.

Oh, and def. check out the podblast.

Memory spike. Labatt's 50 was my drink of choice back in my teens. It's been that long since I've had one. Didn't even know Labatt's made it anymore.

Oh, and that last picture? The prairie highway - use that one for the cover of your Rheostatics Melville disc.

And you got mail on the way.

I don't think they sell 50 out west anymore. When I got out here I went to the local LC and asked if they had it and the guy fixed me with a 'boy, that takes me back' kind of look. He asked me the same thing "they still sell that beer?" And yeah, I thought that prairie pic had a album cover feel to it.

And Tania, everyone is always welcome, but we literally live about 200 km from nowhere in every direction. I always get less visitors than a ebola camp. Actually Saskatoon is the same way. So feel free to drop by anytime. Anyone?

Here's a few more shots of the local wildlife. My dad was just itching to kill that forest cow. He just recently got his Indian status card (yep, I'm 1/16th aborignal, the local THEM) so those days of happy go lucky shooting will be here soon.

Did you get the new Lucero? Kickin my ass, to be sure.

Nice pics, glad to have you back...I think we are about to kick this podblast into high gear.

I downloaded the new Lucero just before I left, but haven't had a chance to hear it yet. That and this podcast business is at the top of my listening list for the long weekend.

And yeah, good times but glad to be back home, such as it is.
