This is getting me more excited than anything in a while. It's not just senseless deaths like Avengers: Disassembled and it feels like the events are going to be more long-term than House Of M.

The last New Avengers, where Luke Cage squared off against SHIELD, excited me.

And I like the twists with characters like The Thing where not everyone is one side or the other. Some just want so little to do it with it that they're leaving the country.

I fully expect Spider-Man to flip sides very soon. He's completely on the wrong side, based on everything in his past.

The one thing that's really pissing me off about the telling of it, though, is the absence of supervillains. Okay, we saw a couple beaten and roped up by Cap and Falcon. And there's been the odd backhanded mention of the Sinister Six being taken in. But, considering villains vastly outnumber heroes, you'd expect a lot more of them to have been noticed so far. And you'd think SHIELD would really be more interested in getting in the people with powers who rob banks and murder people than the people with powers who help old women cross the street.

I'm not reading it, but I'm trying to keep up with the HIGH level storylines.

I'm half vested in it, because i'm reading the main books, the New Avengers ones and a Deadpool one, which i actually enjoyed. So far it's been a lot more instantly gratifying that House of M, but that one sorta sucked anyway. The last NA issue with the Luke Cage thing was great.

Right now i'm all too psyched about that JLA book that Brad Meltzer's doing and the next Walking Dead TP

When I eventually got back into comic asfter suffering from comic book geek burnout in the mid '90's, there are several things I swore I wouldn't get suckered into again. The most important ones being:

1. Buying multiple copies of the same comic due to an alternate cover or some such bullshit
2. huge summer crossover series.

I've been reading X-Factor just because every once and a while Peter David is still pretty good, but haven't been keeping up with Civil War. Similarly I will continue to ignore 52, One Year Later, Infinite Crisis. Or at the very least I will wait until the trade paperback is available at Borders.

I do have an idea to make a crossover series crossing over multiple crossover series. I plan to call it Infinite Crisis on Infinite Infinity Gauntlets.

I'm enjoying it. I'm hoping Hulk comes back and that he joins Cap's side so I can see a throwdown between him and Thor, but I think Nick Fury is with Cap too so he might be a little peeved at him.

I like that Speedball side story too.

I'm a huge Marvel fan so I collect nearly every main, non-mutant title to begin with. So it's not adding a lot to my workload. The only new series I'm following are Civil War, Front Line, and the Young Avengers/Runaways crossovers. So I'm not buying into the "having to own every single related issue" mentality. I don't normally read X-Men so picking up Civil War: X-Men doesn't make much sense.

I was wary of Speedball's story because it looked like it was going to be pretty straightforward and I heard rumors he was going to be killed. But I've also heard rumors he's going to join the Avengers after this is all over. And the last Front Line was nice with him showing them up without powers and then the return of them.

Who is Hickey, though? Are we supposed to recognize him?

And I don't think Planet Hulk is set to end for a while still. I expect, once Civil War is all over, he'll return and trash Iron Man/Mr. Fantastic/etc.

Those two in particular have been pissing me off to no end lately.
