Fuck...this is not a day for good news. I had a feeling this was gonna happen.

Death From Above 1979 split
Duo admit they weren't talking by the end

Death From Above 1979 have split up after six years.

The band released their debut album 'You're A Woman And I'm A Machine' last year before following it up with remixes and b-sides album 'Romance Bloody Romance' in February 2006.

Writing on their official website, bassist Jesse F. Keeler said: "I know it's been forever since I wrote anything on here. I'm sure by now most of you assume the band isn't happening anymore since there are no shows, no work on a new album, etc. Well I wanted to let you know that your assumptions are correct. We decided to stop doing the band... actually we decided that almost a year ago.

"We started as a punk band with pop aspirations and we met every goal we set for ourselves. A few weeks ago, the album finally went gold in Canada and that was the final mark I really wanted to reach."

The bassist revealed that the band have grown apart in recent years to the point where they rarely spoke to each other.

He added: "Over the last 3 years of touring, Sebastien (Grainger) and I had grown apart to such an extent that the only real time we spoke was just before we would play and during interviews. We both changed so much that the people we were by the end of it, probably wouldn't have been friends if they were to meet for the first time again. It's a totally normal function of growing up."

Keeler is currently working with Josh Homme on Queens Of The Stone Age's next album.

The pink spine really stands out in my collection.

That's the closest to praise I can come up with for these guys.

I guess you have to set the bar somewhere.

That's sad. Not that you don't like DFA 1979, but that the pink spine actually stands out in your collection.

This really sucks, I never got the chance to see them live. Hopefully MSTRKRFT will do more shows now and play around here.

I liked the album and thought the show I saw was ok but the drummer seemed like a real asshole. I can't see how anybody would work in a band with that guy.

Lame. They were pretty fun. I wonder if Jesse's going to do anymore Femme Fatale records?

That struck me as kinda funny, too.

Meh. They were OK. I could how they'd be fun live.

I liked these guys a lot, but am not really saddened by the split.
