I generally like MM, Marr is a good guitarist--I see nothing wrong with this.

Interesting.

They're heading my way at New Years. Now I just need to make sure that I'm actually in the city for the summer.

Marrdest Mouse sounds like a big black gospel singer.

So how many acts has Marr "joined" since 1987 now (other than The Healers)?

The The
Electronic
Pretenders
Modest Mouse

Any more?

Be nice if his stints lasted, though his contributions have been pretty cool. And I guess Electonic probably will still do another one eventually.

I think he "co-formed" rather than "joined" Electronic, otherwise he would have "joined" Bernie Sumner which is a little bit meta.

Unless I missed something Electronics last album was 8 years ago so I'd say another one is unlikely.

Bernie would likely give him a right slap if he tried that joining business.

The thing I loved about the last Electronic album was that is was a love letter to The Great '88 Ecstacy Explosion, released right in that awkward period between Rave culture being actually being cutting edge cool and the nostalga Wasn't-Rave-Culture-Cool? of we now 30 somethings.

As a result the poor album was slaughtered by the press but it's actually really good. The whole thing is ecto-hilarious. The cover of the bronzed child picking daisys, the group hug lyrics "This love was born instead of hate, celebrate our love! Let me feel the right vibration, celebrate our love!"

Probably the last time Italian House piano was used unironically.

I was just about to start a thread about this. Good thing I searched.

This should be an interesting collab. I never heard the Johnny Marr and The Healers record. But his guitar playing is the pretty much the reason why I dug The Smiths so much.

Yup. That's what I was talking about

No details yet, but they're hardly going to come all this way and play just one show are they? I mean, it's not like they're Brian Wilson...

But yeah, I'm usually not in Sydney over summer, but this is just another thing on the list making me want to stay this year. So long as they don't play at the f**ckin Hordern

Marr, Brock and co. went down to Sweet Tea studios in Mississippi (the same joint where Good News was recorded) to lay down tracks for We Were Dead, which Brock describes as a nautical balalaika carnival romp. So what’s the gist? Get ready to have your mind blown by Modest Marr’s crazy-dark sailors-and-gypsies whimsy.

this can't not be good.
