God thats a good song.

At this point, Josh Ritter would sweep both categories for me, although there is still a lot I havent heard. That JR disc is just excellent from beginning to end (B&S still serious contenders though)

Single of the Year so far for me...

The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover

It'll be real hard to top that tune.

No kidding. Same here. I've bought a lot of fantastic stuff this year, but so far nothing is coming close to dethroning the Josh Ritter output.

I don't even remember what song was killing me this morning that I started this thread about.

The top one that comes to mind, however, is probably Yo La Tengo's Beanbag Chair.

Fave 5 tracks from my 5 fave albums:

1. "Sour Smoke" from Comets On Fire's 'Avatar'
2. "Rick Rubin" from Spank Rock's 'YoYoYoYoYoYo'
3. "Bless Your Blood" from Six Organs of Admittance's 'The Sun Awakens'
4. "The First League of Angels" from Super Numeri's 'The Welcome Table'
5. "Dormant Love" from Charalambides' 'A Vintage Burden'

Although some of the songs on the TV on the Radio album are slaying me (like "Let The Devil In") and that album could sneak into my top 5 (by a long shot).

Also, you must hear Six Organs' "Assyrian Blood" from his split with Om.

I definitely remember hearing it on radio late last year, but The Gossip's Standing in the Way of Control is the sound of them nailing it.

Also partial to:

Tapes 'n Tapes - Insistor
Augie March - One Crowded Hour
Sleepy Jackson - God Lead Your Soul and Devil Was in my Yard
The Grates - half the album
Camera Obscura - Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken
Neko Case - Hold On Hold On

And whatever that Spank Rock single was sounded good every time I heard it

I didn't need to search, I asked. And, within the span of almost seven hours, nobody responded.

Seven hours in message board time is like seven months in the real world.

but you asked over a weekend, which voids your claim.

Two pop songs I like a lot:

Corinne Bailey Rae - "Put Your Records On"
Donald Fagen - "Brite Nitegown"

I think right now, in no particular order, the top three songs this year are:

1. Empty - Ray LaMontagne
2. If Work Permits - The Format
3. Been Here Before - Jeremy Enigk

Right now, based on amount of listens alone, I would have to say my #1 album so far is The Format - Dog Problems
