I bought a "road" bike today. It's actually a cross bike (see the knobby tires) with shitty parts (stripped the seatpost head already >:^( , but I was in Performance, they had my size and it was on sale off the sale price. It started at $979, marked down to $749 with a red $200 off tag on it. Final final, $549. Plus it's double points weekend! It wound up they owed ME $$! Not.

But here's a pic of it and the website w/ specs if you want to look. http://fujibikes.com/2006/bikes.asp?id=137

I dunno. I've ridden mountain bikes for so long, this may not stick, but all my close friends have road bikes, so it may be my turn to go to the dark side.

That's cool. I think I'm going to strip down my old Fuji mountain bike into a fixed gear and just add parts to it as I can afford.

How you liking the new bike? Why no posts or pics of you out tearing it up?

I'm still trying to gather up enough swag to send you, btw.

The new bike is awesome. I think I'm going up to New Hampshire next weekend and may finally take it out on some trails instead of just riding around in the streets with it.

I just started riding the mountain bike that was a gift for my bar mitzvah. I have no idea what a bike like yours feels like, but I imagine it feels like good.

Good for you- what bike did you get?

Yeah, this bike feels nice. It's really stiff, and it goes like heck compared to my mtn bike. The road bumps aren't as bad as I was led to believe, but maybe that's the little extra bit of cush the knobbies are giving me.

Lookin good.. my last bike (stolen in NYC, thank you animals) - was a Fuji Hybrid. Low end- but for the price I enjoyed it. The road bikes are hella stiff compared to mtn bikes, but I thnk you get used to it after awhile.. happy riding

It's some Raleigh Ambush mountain bike that was bought for me when I was 13. I rode it twice and apparently decided I didn't want to ride a bike anymore. But I've been cycling to and from our new office every day that I can this summer: about 40 minutes either way down a bike path and along the canal. I love it, except for how it feels on the "knobbies".

I suppose it's time for an upgraded bike, but everyone in Montreal rides a garbage clunker, and you're more than likely to get it stolen even.

My new FAVOURITE thing though is cycling in thunderstorms!!!

It's an older mtb, I'll bet it doesn't.

These are horizontal dropouts, Shiv.Image It's what your rear wheel slips into.

Yeah it has those. It's not too old, like 2002 maybe.
