Anyone else having troubles widdling your artist/band down to 15 songs? My band (Cocteau Twins) has over 20 years worth of stuff. I've finally got it down to 24 songs. Couldn't we do it so that it fits on an 80 minute c.d.?

Also, I'm torn between doing a chronological thing or just a good mix thing. Any preferences?

My magic number, in terms of mixes, is 17. I generally aim for that number of tracks regardless of song length or anything else, so that's probably what I'll do.

In terms of chronological or not, I think it depends on the band. Some bands have a sound that completely evolves over time so year by year sounds great. Others are kind of always a similar sound so mixing it up wouldn't hurt.

And, in response to my own original need of a Kate Bush mix, I also need a Frank Zappa mix. Somebody step up.

I made my mix something like 79 minutes long. I pretty much always make mixes with an 80 min CD in mind since that's what msot blank CD-Rs are now. I've cheated a little though, since I reached 79 minutes with just 14 songs, I'm going to upload another one as a "bonus".

Originally, my Can mix was chronological, but I decided to mess with it to make it more interesting (to me anyway). Even though their sound evolved a lot over the 7 year period that my mix covers, I think it works pretty well. Two adjacent songs may sound like completely differeent bands, but I kind of like that.

Anyway, if at all possible, I'm gonna put mine up tonight.

sure. lets just post the tracklist here with a link. that is fine with me. sorry been busy. sorry to see billyg drop. dreaded marco - a richmond fontaine mix would be cool to add.

also if you have problems with mix length you can go above but at a certain point it gets unbearable.

Shit, is YSI requiring everybody to log in when they try to download now?

It just did when I clicked on rparis's link.

Awesome. I have heard exactly one go-betweens song (on one of dana's mixes) and love it.

I gotta get crackin on this Stones sheee. Prepare for Aural Vomit.

OK, cool. That answers my question.

For some reason I'm afraid to register there with a real email address.

I'll do this, but I'm not sure my specialties will interest anyone:

David Bowie
Sinead O'Connor
Peter Murphy
pre-Green R.E.M. (i.e. the good years)
and of course, Duran Duran-- I could always limit it to pre-1983 if that helps

OK, here's my Can mix in 3 parts.

The first two parts together comprise the length of 1 CD and are the main mix. Here's the tracklist for that:

Part 1
1. I'm So Green
2. Paperhouse
3. Mushroom
4. Uphill
5. Father Cannot Yell
6. Mother Sky
Code:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=AF0EDE3C7E173042

Part 2
7. Sing Swan Song
8. She Brings the Rain
9. Moonshake
10. Spoon
11. Dizzy Dizzy
12. Connection
13. Vitamin C
14. Future Days
Code:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=EED4336C31CBE077

And, if you like the above stuff or are already pretty familiar with Can, you 'll want this, too:
Code:

It's a 19 minute jam from their 1973 (I think) Peel Session with Damo Suzuki. It's a great track, and their Peel Sessions are currently OOP.

The first part of the main mix is the more psyche-rock, extended jam stuff. It might get monotonous around the 4th or 5th track if you're not really into it, and if that's the case, maybe just go ahead and check out the 2nd part (starting with "Sing Swan Song") which is more song-oriented and varied.

Is there a tracklist? I'm not going to download because I have all of their albums but I'm curious what you included.
