Isn't there some sort of audio equivalent out there to YouTube and Google Video? All I want is someplace I can upload my files for free and let anyone stream them for free. If it can be done with ginormous video files, why can't it be done with much smaller audio files???

because nobody wants to touch the liability--what you're talking about is essentially an internet radio station, and those require royalty payments.

You can use shoutcast which is a winamp plug in to stream music directly from your pc. I used to do it, so people could listen to what I was listening too. I could also type in the url and stream my music selection from anywhere. The catch is, you need one machine to continuously play music in Winamp, which negates your ability to listen to anything on that machine without interrupting the stream. If the machine crashes or freezes, the stream doesn't work.
It also requires you to open up a port on your machine, and therefore susceptible to virus/ worms/ hacking.

I'll help you out and try to remember how to do it if you ask.

Isn't the same true for video clips posted from existing TV shows and movies? I mean, sure that's a violation of the site's TOS and all that, but C'MON. I don't see how they can have it both ways. Either open the floodgates or slam the door shut.

Different industry lobby groups, different concerns, I guess.

Ah, the RIAA beat the MPAA at rock-paper-scissors for who gets to squeeze the internet first, eh? By the way, I wasn't mad at you or anything, just the general ridiculousness of the system. Cue Pacino's "out of order" speech from And Justice For All...

Bob, I'm never going to assume you're mad at me, unless you poop on my couch or something. And even then, it's pleather and easily washed.

Yeah, I think we're gonna have to just grab our ankles and pony up the dough. And by "we" I mean Bloor. He's the candy man of this operation.

Maybe someone who isn't in your office can host it on their machine. Anyone have a spare machine that they have running all the time with a high speed conection?

Got it solved. Bloor bought box.net -- and by that I don't mean he paid for an account; he actually BOUGHT THE COMPANY.
