So thanks first of all to Rodney for suggesting this dumb idea, it was fun trying to put this together. I spent most of yesterday listening to Neil Young albums both great and not-so great, and then trying to figure out how the hell I could squeeze a decent mix out of it all. First off, I probably broke a few rules that were set up: it's long (19 songs at 79 min) and the file is large (115 MB), but this is what I decided on would be a good representative mix of Neil's work that you might not find on Decade or other compilations featuring his better known songs. It's heavy on the 60s-70s (Everbody Knows This is Knowhere, After the Goldrush, Time Fades Away, Tonight's the Night, On the Beach, Zuma, Rust Never Sleeps), nearly absent from the 80s (Freedom) with a the rest from the 90s-00s (Ragged Glory, Sleeps with Angels, Harvest Moon, Silver & Gold, Prairie Wind). I missed adding tracks from in my collection (Neil Young, Are You Passionate, Mirrorball), mainly due to the length of some of the tracks on these albums. So I hope you like it, let me know the high and low points, and what some of you Neil fans would have added or subtracted.

Track List

1. Time Fades Away (Time Fades Away)
2. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (Everybody Knows This is Nowhere)
3. Far From Home (Prairie Wind)
4. Country Home (Ragged Glory)
5. Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown (Tonight's the Night)
6. Don't Cry (Freedom)
7. Revolution Blues (On the Beach)
8. Western Hero (Sleeps with Angels)
9. Don't Let it Bring You Down (After the Goldrush)
10. Powderfinger (Rust Never Sleeps)
11. Unknown Legend (Harvest Moon)
12. Silver & Gold (Silver & Gold)
13. Prime of Life (Sleeps with Angels)
14. Lookin' for Love (Zuma)
15. 'Till the Morning Comes (After the Goldrush)
16. Albuquerque (Tonight's the Night)
17. White Line (Ragged Glory)
18. Drive Back (Zuma)
19. Ambulance Blues (On the Beach)

Fuck to the YEAH! These are some of my fave NY songs, and since I don't know/don't recognize the others I'll grab this bugger post-haste.

I think you'll like the others quite a lot, especially the few from Ragged Glory (I actually might post a few more 'substitution possibilities' or alternates that I wanted in the mix). I really wanted to put on more from Prairie Wind, as my appreciation of that album skyrocketed after watching the Heart of Gold concert.

TOTALLY! "Heart of Gold" completely opened my eyes to that album, and encouraged a tear. This mix hits the spot, thanks!

I'm actually driving to North Ontario today, and need some more Neil for the drive. Could anyone set me up with a YSI or 2 of a full-length? In digital, I already have Chrome Dreams, Living With War, On The Beach, Tonight's the Night, and Arc on hand. I would gladly accept anything else.

North Ontario? Where you heading? I've got a link for Silver & Gold already that Bloor sent me. What else would you like? Crazy Horse stuff or mellow Harvest Moon type stuff? And is AAC okay?

Some great choices in there, DumpJack! This should be a good listen, and there a couple more recent songs on there that I don't have.

Somebody needs to send Ish a copy of Zuma. I don't have it here, but if I did, I'd do it.

I'm headed to Thunder Beach on Georgian Bay. Not really North Ontario, but north of Toronto, I guess;^) Near Midland and Penetanguishene.

Thanks for the "Silver & Gold".

Is AAC gonna agree with my iPod?

I could use a digital copy of:

Goldrush
Harvest
Harvest Moon
Zuma
Neil Young
US Stars Bars
Freedom
Ragged Glory
Trans
Re*Ac*Tor
Rust Never Sleeps

All help is appreciated!!!

AAC is perfect for the ipod. I'm upping Zuma for you right now, but sendspace is a little slow. You should have it within the hour.

Jesus Ish.

Don't you know that even having these in your possession is tantamount to a prison sentence.

TRANS!?!?!

Man, Neil has had a weird career.

Trans is OK.

IIRC, there are actually some pretty ordinary-sounding songs on it in addition to "Transformer Man" and the others.

I'm surprised that there's nothing from Harvest on here...that's my favorite Neil album

We've been differing lately, BG. I left off Harvest as it's my least favourite and his most popular album with a lot of the tracks represented on compilations. I just figured most people have heard most of it before.

What, Derris. I am very curious about "Trans". As much as I love all the mainstay Neil albums, how many times can I listen to them and only them? I love Neil enough that I'd like to hear even his supposed mistakes.

Thanks repeatedly, DJ.

killah. Looking forward to the songs I haven't heard.

Derris - Reactor isn't bad at all. In fact it's a good heavy Neil record. Still have never heard Trans.

Great selection, and special props for including two from Sleeps with Angels, the great unknown classic. You coulda included something from Greendale...like Prairie Wind, seeing the "big picture" opens it up.

No one is a bigger Neil fan... but whoever wanted Trans... don't.

Sorry, chum. One of the caveats for the mix was nothing off of Decade.

Great tracks. Will download tonight. Nice to see tracks from Silver & Gold and Sleeps With Angels. Excellent job avoiding so-called signature songs. As good as Decade is, Young doesn't give a toss about signature.
