I've been reading this Clash bio - Passion is a Fashion. The filming of Rude Boy seems to have been fraught with problems - continuity errors, having to rescore all the live audio, etc.

Anyone ever seen this? Is it a mess or worth looking into?

(Also, I love the official Clash label site for Rude Boy -

"Join The Clash mailing list to stay up-to-date on all the latest news, tour info, contest announcements, and more!"

Keep checking my inbox waiting for that tour info!)

It just came out on DVD (at least in the states) a couple of weeks ago. Had it come out a months ago when I was deep into my Joe Strummer lovefest, I would've snatched it up immediately. Now, its on my netflix queue. I too have heard the problems with it. Wasn't this the film also that made Scorsese originally want the Clash to be in "Gangs of New York"?

Totally worth it for the live footage alone...if you're a Clash fan.

Otherwise, nothing really stunning about it, but for Clash fans, absolutely worth seeing.

Still got a VHS copy around here somewhere.

I do too.

I think it's a great document of the Clash just fucking killing it. I think that footage is better than almost all of the stuff in on the Westway to the World DVD. The story is kinda meh, but I love that scene with Strummer explaining some of his politics at the bar.

Best Clash book ever: Riot of Our Own by Johnny Greenspecs.

Just bought it on DVD for my dad this weekend. I'll borrow it from him eventually.

How so? It was his 60th birthday. He was a monster Clash fan back in the day, and he had Rude Boy on VHS, but no more VCR, so I picked it for him. Im a 2nd generation Clash fan (33 yrs old), and never saw it.

Apologies.

I wish my dad liked the Clash.

I found it crazy that the band had to re-record the live tracks while watching the footage. Sounds like the people behind it were not entirely competent. But I guess it turned out great...

No apologies necessary...just playing around...funny that Clash fans now have grown children and the like.

World changes.
