to complain about the noise before you go to the management?

I've been in this apt since the beginning of the month and i've been over there 3 times. And i'm tempted to go over there again tonight, but I'm tired of feeling like an asshole. They run this heavy bass that I just can't deal with. Thoom thoomp, thoom thoomp. Fucking kills me.

I try to deal with it until like 11, 'cause I feel like that's the time to stop being douchebags and be human, but then I'm done. I try to be cool about it, but christ...

I have never complained.
In my old, more ghetto apartment, the people upstairs listened to bass music during the late afternoon/early evening hours. It used to really bother my girlfriend, but the few times I actually noticed it, it had little impact on me. The people who lived in the house next door to our apartment bothered me much more.
In our current place, the people upstairs have had some rather loud parties, but they haven't impacted my sleeping or freaked our dog out.

I'm louder than my neighbors, I gotta frickin bar over here. But once in a while, they throw a blowout all night bashment, and I never say a word. In your case, I would tell the apt. manager that you have been reasonable and that you would like to anonymously request they do something about it, that's the job of managment, after all.

dude i'm surprised my neighbors haven't complained about us yet. i'm never home but my roommates are way young so they always have people over (it's getting beyond irritating).

at my old place a few years ago, i called the cops on my roommates once. yes that was an asshole move on my part but that night shit was way out of hand.

My sister used to live next door to ecstasy dealers. They'd board up their house, switch on the air-con and they must have had surround-around-the-whole-house sound because their techno literally shook my sister's house. Haha and you could see the disco lights through their curtains.

I was going over at least once a month for the first couple of months since they moved in. I was where you are now, just on the cusp of going to management, and then it stopped or at least became reasonable. And they're moving out at the end of the month.

I'd rather have bass than sex and fighting.

You should wake them up every morning with Primus' "The Air is Getting Slippery" or Husker Du's "Baby Song".

Stomp up and down the hall yelling "TO DEFY THE LAWS OF TRADITION!" And bang on steel drums. Every morning.

Totally.

Our immediate neighbours are alright. One is a crazy dude who hates all of us and thinks we're yuppies (more like near-starving artists); another is a duo of art school girls in their early twenties (sorry, boyz + ayah... no pics); another is just a quiet solo woman...

The real problem is our neighbours across the street. Someone has already had to call the cops because of their fighting... but I swear I nearly did the other night.

The woman's little girl was out on their balcony calling her lost cat... and then suddenly the woman was all : "If you don't come inside I'm gonna slap the shit out of you." And then the guy (no idea if he's the father, etc) was all screaming at the woman...

Woke me & the Senor up... 1am. I mean what was her little daughter even doing up at 1am? "Slap the shit" our of your daughter? Good lord. I was so worried for the little one. If it had gone on for a second longer I would have soooo called the cops. I probably should have as it was. Bad shit.

or if we're going to go with the Noriega torture routine, I would play "Ah Ah Yawa Em Ekat Ot Gnimoc eryeht" over and over and over.

Ask them for a hit on their bong if they are going to be playing loud music all night.

Actually... the art school girls were "partying" the other night and we nearly did ask them to "share the wealth" a little.

I've called the cops on my current nextdoor neighbors before because they had loud music playing all night long up until about 6 AM on a Tuesday morning. I don't think the cops actually showed up, though, but the music stopped about 5 minutes after I finally made the phone call. The "management" at our apt. probably wouldn't have done anything.

I'm semi-friends with one them, and she gave me "fair warning" that they were having a party on Monday night. I mistakenly thought they'd have the decency to shut it down at the very least by 1 AM. I've gone over there before to complain about noise, too, at like 4 in the morning.

I would generally say you should only complain if it keeps you from sleeping, but if it's just unbearable during the day (or before 11 PM) then it's justifiable to complain, I guess. I think you've got every right to go to the management now. I know people have complained to apt. managers about me and my roommates for way less.

you guys haven't lived until the sound of your neighbor's WEEPING AND BAWLING AND SMASHING HIS STEREO for like 11 straight days. Fortunately, his probation officers caught up with him.

I've been on all sides of the noisy neighbor thing, and at some point you just learn to grow the fuck up. Unless it's a weekend, which means you're too old.

Still, if you're above them, it's all to easy to resolve.

listen, if youve signed a lease chances are there is some provision in there about reasonable use of the apartment and some kind of language about quality of living there. in other words, if yr landlord cant make it so that you can expect to use the apt in a manner consistent with what most people would consider resonable, you have all kinds of recourse. you should def check the lease, and if it comes down to it and the mgr refuses to do anything about it, you do have other options.

edit: oh, and noise ordinances during the week usually kick in around 10 or 11.

i haven't really had a noise problem with neighbors since college.

my upstairs neighbor goes through phases where she pushes around a rolling ottoman (or something like that) for what seems like hours, but it's really just a low rumble that i can tune out. and my neighbor(s) across the hall were loud as hell for the first couple weeks, but it's been quiet over there since then.

Yeah, you got about 300K on you? That'd get me a halfway decent place in the city where I might not have to deal with neighbors, and this city is probably cheaper than most up in your area.

That's part of what's weird about it... we live in a really nice neighbourhood (pls note: we rent and have roommates).

Of course the one pic I could find is in the winter...
Yes it's winter here year-round.

It´s strange. I´ve lived in the same building for over a year now and just this month moved downstairs. Upstairs I never had any problems with anyone, but right away moving down here I saw there was gonna be problems. Those dudes next door, the fake-as-hell hipsters next to them, and both groups standing outside or walking by my place smoking... ugh.

With the music, I could handle the loud. I'm pretty much ok with that. But the bass... the bass. I'm pretty sure if you sat me down and put a row of babies in front of me and took a sledgehammer to each while just thumping bass from across the block I'd beg you to to finish with the babies quick so you can turn off the stereo. Something primal grabs me and I want to warpath... I hate bass so much. Bring on the white trash fighting.
