Greatest Songs of the 1960s, or are we, collectively, "so over Pitchfork its not even worth mentioning."

Might *gasp* start some music discussion.

arguing top 100 albums or so is kind of fun, arguing top songs is incredibly arbitrary and pointless.

It's bound to be better than Harley's running critique of pre-Reagan Administration music.

Dude hates LET IT BLEED!!! I mean, he salvaged some credibility with the Devo review, but C'MON...

Agreed. I'd even say that on a real "top album" it is difficult to decide what would be the top song. It's getting a little nit-picky.

Well, so far it's hard to really say much about what they've put up. It won't be until they've got the whole two hundred up, and everybody's saying "I can't believe they left off _______".

So far, I'm kinda surprised they picked "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks. If I could only pick 5 Kinks songs from the '60s, that one wouldn't even come close, but it's a great song anyway.

And that's about all I got on the subject. Well, that and who the fuck are Cromagnon?

Ha. That's hilarious. I was actually specifically thinking of the Kinks when I wrote the above....

I love "Sunny Afternoon"

but then of course there's
"Set Me Free"
"Till the End of the Day"
"Everybody's Gonna Be Happy", etc. etc. etc.

not to mention the "big" hits...

I came across this "problem" through extensive research: i.e. DJing twice a week and realizing that I could probably just play The Kinks (& TRex) all night everyone (including myself) would be quite pleased. :)

Yeah, that was kind of freaky.

I started the Top 200 yesterday but haven't yet finished reading.

Don't take it too hard, kid. You're heart's in the right place. But you young whippersnappers need to realize not all classic rock is bad, and learn how to distinguish the difference between the good and bad. There's still time, young Anakin...

I don't think it all sucks. I like quite a bit of Stones and Bowie and Dylan and Aerosmith, for example. It's just certain stuff I can't stand. Like the Beatles and Zeppelin and prog-rock and... oh. I see why you all hate me now.

I don't hate you at all, man. You're cool in my book. My main reason for dumbfounded shock is that Let It Bleed is my favorite of all Stones albums, and don't think I've ever known anyone to not like it...well, except for noted Stones hater Prince of Darkness, of course...haha.

Don't mind us old farts. WE CROTCHETY.

Just for your edumacation, there was a '60s group called the Last Poets, who don't get near the credit they deserve for their influence on rap. Hit the filesharing networks for a listen to "Wake Up Niggers" for some proof.
