Hey kids,

Couldn't find an actual thread about this (beyond the original "this will be coming out" posts).

I saw it this past weekend. Very much enjoyed it. Kinda weird film. I'd seen "Waking Life" so I was used to the look/feel of the Director's stuff.

Haven't read the book but I'd be curious to.

Anyone see it yet? What did yah'll think?

(forgive me if there actually is a thread about this)

I liked it, all in all. It was pretty unsatisfying, plot-wise, but that was kind of the point--to put you in the same sort of confused, drug-like haze that the characters are in. I have very little urge to see it again.

Were you left wondering if it was in fact an anti-drug movie?

Well, I never really considered that, because it just doesn't seem like Linklater's style, and you KNOW Dick wasn't anti-drug (and it is supposedly a faithful adaptation, although I haven't read it either). It's maybe more a commentary on the various ways people distance themselves from each other, and the questionable motivations for doing so, something something...

The other thread was called "a keanu darkly", but there wasn't much discussion in it.

I liked the movie a lot, and I was probably want to see it again sometime. For some reason, movies with meandering or even nonexistent plots rarely bother me unless they're flat-out boring, which this wasn't at all. I loved the nutty dialogue, and Robert Downey Jr. was pretty awesome. It was also really nice to look ar for the most part, and I felt that most of it was done much better than Waking Life.

he may not have been anti-drug "per-se" but from what i've read--and having seen the movie--it's is a pretty damning account what these folks go through. . . and the end of the film (as it is in the book) there's a list of all his friends that were either killed or driven insane by addiciton. though it was definitly as much an anti-government and anti-the-folks-who-profit, it was pretty anti-drug as well.
