Hey.

So I recently got into him and pretty obsessed (as you can probably tell from my recent NP postings).

I've been trying to find more biographical info on him. I've read all the linear notes I can... and a chapter in a book on producers that I have ("Sonic Alchemy")... but I was wondering if anyone else is:

a) really into him
and/or
b) knows of other source of info on him either online or in book format.

I'm aware of the basics: the albums he's put out, etc... just looking for either more discussion re: his music & style or info about his life.

...Or, you know, more pre-70s pictures of him looking hot.

you need to read the 2-part interview with him that was in wax poetics earlier this year. it's the reason why i started searching out his work. it has a ton of information. i am blown away by his range.

I was gonna say the same thing. I like the mizzell brothers more though. I was pretty hugely into soul jazz last year.

yeah. dumb me. I saw the cover to one of his records and thought "that looks familiar"... it wasn't until yesterday that I realized it's because we had that issue of wax poetics at the rekkid store I worked at. :(

I need to go bug my old boss & see if I can borrow the copy he keeps on file.

The part that I saw was practically lifted word for word from the linear notes from that Capital Comp "The Edge".

When he did that album on Mo Wax in 2001 I wasn't musically mature enough for it. Then recently just this year when "The Edge" cameout I thought it was great. There's definately some misses on there but some amazing stuff too. Good stuff

What Axelrod thread in Feb?

Are you a big fan too?

"The Edge" is the one I bought. The stuff from "Songs of Innocence" is SICK.
A friend just lent me the "1968-1970" comp, plus the entire "Songs of Innocence" record, and I must say I'm loving "Holy Are You". Is that Electric Prunes stuff hard to find (on cd)?

I've honestly listened to that "1968-1970" comp 4 times in a row today. :!:

(although I've been skipping "For what it's worth" and "Kukuchi".)

i picked up the edge shortly after then and think i tackled song of innocence when it was brought up in spade kitty's "yearly best-of" threads. good stuff. i'm not a big fan, but i've heard enough to not be a novice anymore.
