okay, that's fair enough, you get a bye this round.

Yeah, the Philadelphia Orchestra doesn't seem to get the props it once did, pretty much since that blowhole Muti left, which is a shame, because I felt like Sawallisch never got his due. I haven't seen them under Eschenbach yet, so it's nice to know they're in good hands.

I love taking the ferry. It's one of the most relaxing things to do in the city that still involves being around a fair amount of people.

The Gate...there's an outdoor section there, too, right? What's the name of that place across the street from it - the restaurant. Stone Park..? I can taste the burgers all the way from up here in Newton.

just have to say it once more: i've listened to the bso in over a dozen performances and rehearsals this summer but philadelphia blew them away.
i am now finished with my esoteric bullshit comments.

NYC: go to the indian restaurants near 1st and A, eat a big meal, take a gigantic soul cleansing shit.

Philly: go beat up a crust punk

if you can score tickets to hear the philadelphia symphony orchestra, do it. saw them this weekend and it was mind boggling perfection.

GAH!!! and not so much of even a notice!!??? Frankly, I'm a little insulted. Did you see them at the Mann? That remains my favorite outdoor venue I've ever been to. and it's free! free! free!

saw them at tanglewood in the berkshires so don't be insulted.
believe me, if i'm coming to philadelphia, i'm calling you.
that said, eschenbach conducted his ass off.

He can be a real ass in person. Boston's got the horses, but those decades under Ozawa were damaging. If you really want perfection, get some old recordings of Leopold Stokowski conducting Philly, and when you think it can't get better than that... Eugene Ormandy manhandled that group and turned it into the stuff of legends.

Chicago, Philly, and NY Phil are the strongest this side of the atlantic. But then there's Berlin, and Abbado was pretty unreal with them.

O.k., enough of that. Glad you saw some classical.

I believe you're right.

Oh and whoever's going to NY, get some chocolate at La Maison du Chocolat.

Best ever.
