Man, was that fun.

Went about half way in. Didn't feel a thing. Even the slow removal of it was painless but damnit if i'm not feeling it now.

I'm about to go punch the motherfucker who left that there for me to step on.

Maybe I should just nail his hands to the floor. See how he likes it. That might be pushing it tough.

Is this "motherfucker" your wife? Cause that's called domestic violence.

ive done this before. i was a kid. i stepped down hard on a piece of wood. there was a nail sticking up out of it. it went all the way through and came out the top of my foot. i was known thereafter as 'two by foot'. we all had a good laugh and ate some ice cream.

dude, sorry to hear about this. that sucks.

But seriously... go get it checked out.

My man step on a piece of broken glass with bare feet... it looked like most of it was out but he got it checked out and there was still a bit left. It hurt him for at least a month later and that was with putting cream on it to avoid infection... so...

get it checked out.

was it rusty?

Nope.

Brand new.

I whipped out the peroxyde right away and disinfected it. I'm hoping that's enough.

It's just gonna be a bitch to walk around for a couple of days.

despite the common association, i don't think tetanus has anything to do with whether a nail is rusty--its a bacteria commonly found in soil (and feces). so i'd get that looked at. but if you don't, be on the lookout for this:

Quote:
Tetanus often begins with muscle spasms in the jaw (called trismus), accompanied by difficulty swallowing and stiffness or pain in the muscles of the neck, shoulders, or back. These spasms can spread to the muscles of the abdomen, upper arms, and thighs.

It's potentially fatal, so it's probably worth a doc visit, even if it's a very low chance.

Tetanus shots are good for ten years. If it has been more than that you should go. My father told me that if you have rubber soled shoes on the potential is greater because the rubber that is used in typical sneakers has an exorbitant amount, or at least likelihood thereof, of the tetanus bug. And, when you step on a nail, especially when it penetrates that deep, it acts like a syringe.

Get the Tetanus if the time is right. Disinfecting won't do a damn thing if it went halfway into your foot.

I stepped on a nail that went almost all the way through my foot a few years ago. I had to go get the tetanus. The shot hurts like a bitch for a day or two. It was funny though. I stepped on the nail. Go the shot that night and then sprained my ankle on my other foot the next day surfing. I was doing construction at the time and i got made fun off, rightfully so, all day because I was limping with both legs and could hardly lift my right arm.

But. I didn't die. So that's cool.

Actually the rubber on the soles makes it more likely that you get pseudomonas, if i recall. however, for an obvious puncture wound, you need a tetanus, regardless of how long its been

i've never stepped on a nail but have stepped on a fish hook and one time when i was getting in a canoe, it had this little raised metal square on the floor of it and i jabbed it right into the bottom of my foot.

Not stepped on a nail, but I have spiked myself while doing hurdles (God knows how, but in my defence I had only just started training for the event). I've still got 3 huge parallel scars on the inside of my leg from it. Even with the tetanus shot the wound was disgusting - it was actually weeping outside the bandage in the first few days.

And then last year I managed to get bitten by a dog so had to get another tetanus shot.

The shot doesn't hurt I found, so much as deaden the muscle for a few days

Seriously,

yes.

my dad stepped on a toothpick (he's the one who dropped it on the floor) and after about five days, had to enter the hospital for nine days because of an infection. almost lost his foot. idiot. he's never dropped another toothpick in the house and he does all the vacuuming now.
