sorry for cross posting but I saw that everyone else who made a mix for rparis74's mix thread started their own thread to announce their mix so here's mine:

If you're unfamiliar, they were an Austin, TX band that released 2 singles, 3 EPs and 1 album from 1996-2000, mostly on Trance Syndicayte or, after that label's demise, on Jagjaguwar.
I've been a big fan of them since I heard one of their songs ("The Bees") on a Trance Syndicate sampler back in '98. Plain Sweeping Themes For the Unprepaired, their only LP, is one of my all time favorites. It's a shame they never garnered much attention and are now virtually forgotten. Even in their hometown, no one seems to remember them. Their music is slow and lethargic and takes repeated listens to get into, also they were no great shakes live, all of which might have contributed to their lack of popularity.
One of them went on to play in The Pilot Ships, with one of the guys from Stars of the Lid, but aside from that none of them have released any music for years. I think 3 or 4 of them work for the Austin Chronicle now.
stylisticaly, codeine, rex, and bedhead are good landmarks.
if nothing else, listen to #6 The Bees, it and #3 are probably their best songs. Both of them have been stuck in my head for about 8 years now.
