Eh...I don't even think Tennis or Golf would qualify..certainly moreso than a sport people are only slightly interested every four years, and mainly played on foreign turf.

I think it would have to be a team sport. And I don't EVER see it happening.

Can you imagine being one gay dude on a football, baseball, basketball or hockey team? Good luck!

whoa, easy there...before this happened, you could've given OU a slight advantage over TX at QB due to Bomar having a little experience under his belt...now you're looking at a draw @ the QB position since both teams will have noobs

but everything else would shake out the same...so, if you were saying OU was gonna win the South before this, I don't see how they could suddenly have no chance

Per ESPN Page 2's Daily Quickie...

Quote:
Big 12 Teams Now Better Than Oklahoma

1. Texas
Even post-VY, they'll rule

2. Texas Tech
Most innovative O in league

3. Nebraska
"Big Red" sinks OU. Irony?

4. Colorado

5. Iowa St.
Throw Mizzou and TAMU in, too

Prometh, I appreciate your passion for the Huskers but dude come back down to earth. Granted, I know next to nothing about what Nebraska has been doing the last few years other than they installed some sort of West coast passing game and they haven't been having the success that they've enjoyed in the past.

How can you say that they will be favored in a game against Texas, Oklahoma, or even Kansas (who killed you last year) for that matter?

The Big 12 North has been notoriously weak the last couple years which would favor you making to the championship game but looking at your schedule you could be beaten by USC, Texas, Kansas, OSU, and A&M. Not to mention having those 2 patsy games to open the season before going to USC doesn't help your cause.

I love your passion but you need to take the blinders off. Of course you could've had a couple great recruiting years and I could be wrong.

I'm forever the optimist when it comes to UGA but I'll concede that we have a HUGE issue at QB and could very well could go 8-4 if things don't go our way but if we win some swing games with UT, Auburn, Tech, and Florida we'll be in the hunt. That's a big if though.

Assuming Nebraska wins the Big 12 North, but not the Big 12 title as predicted, there is a high probability that they will be selected to play in the Cotton Bowl this year.
Since that is the Big 12 versus SEC, what are the chances of a Nebraska-Georgia game.
The Capital One Bowl selects the number two team from the SEC, the the Outback, Cotton and Chick Fil A get to fight over the next teams.
ESPN has the SEC East as Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and the West as Auburn, LSU and Alabama.
Nebraska has a longer bowl history with LSU and Alabama, and a more recent history with Tennessee. I'd really like to see Nebraska and the Dawgs hook up in a bowl game again. The last time was the 1969 Sun Bowl.

I'd love it. I love it when schools with long histories hook up.

I've also seen Iowa St. getting some top 25 preseason votes. They could pull an upset on someone this season as well.

Seems like every year either Mizzou, OSU, or Iowa St. pulls a huge upset over someone.

Roy Simmons from the NY Giants is gay, and he's been on Stern.

Also, there is Billy Bean, but not the Oakland GM Billy Beane, and Umpire Dave Pallone, who was the umpire Pete Rose shoved when he was managing the Reds, if memory serves.

I wasn't saying they would be favored against Texas, I just said the location of the possible two games against them this season would favor Nebraska. The Huskers play Texas at home October 21st and the Big 12 title game is in KC. We don't play OU during the regular season, so they are out of the equation. As for KU, the Jayhawks deserve all the credit for ending the 37 year streak last year, but they are going to be close to the bottom of the totem pole this year. OKlahoma State is quite possibly the worst team in the Big 12 this year.
I realize anything can happen during the season and I have been realistic about Nebraska the last two years, and so far this year, the realistic expectation is 9-3 or 10-2 depending on what type of team A&M is. As for the patsy games, we play a Louisiana Tech team that while not as good as last year by all accounts, did throttle a Fresno State team that nearly beat USC. A team like Nebraska needs these warmup games to get ready for USC, so I don't see how they can hurt them.

Edit:
Kansas has also not beaten Nebraska in Lincoln since 1968, they couldn't even beat Nebraska in Lincoln the year the huskers went 5-6 under Callahan.

Roy Simmons isn't high-profile enough, as an athlete, and Bean, et. al., came out after retiring.

At least they will plummet accordingly after the Buckeyes drill their overrated asses on 9/9. OU is also WAY too high, especially without Bomar. West Virginia and Georgia are both too low.

WV is too low. I think UGA is about right. We have a bit of a question at QB, and lost some massive heavies on D...except that apparently most of the guys replacing the folks we lost are supposed to be sick in their own right. I would love folks to underestimate GA, espec. cos Mark Richt is Jesus.

Alabama is ranked, I guess by virtue of their name and a 10-2 finish last year, but they lost SEVEN defensive starters, their QB, their center AND their best player/WR/massive pimp Tyrone Prothro. If they win 7 games, I will be SHOCKED.

I think West Virginia is about right, the Big East is clearly weak compared to the rest of the BCS conferences. Louisville or West Virginia, who ever wins the conference deserves to be top five at the end of the year if they are unbeaten, but probably aren't better than a one loss SEC, Big 12 or ACC team.
I think Texas deserves to be up there for winning it last year, plus their schedule is relatively weak. A strong defensive performance and a decent ball control offense can easily win the Ohio State game. OSU has some defensive questions, and playing in Austin will be a difficult task for the top rated team.
I think you are going to see Oklahoma drop fast as well as Miami, Oregon and Penn State could jump up fast depending on their early games against Oklahoma and Notre Dame respectively.
Nebraska is about right where they ended last year. I think they will end up around 15-16 if they end up 10-2.
You can clearly tell most of the votes were cast before this week.

Pre-season bowl projections courtesy of College Football News.

Notables:
Oregon State vs. BYU in Las Vegas Bowl
UL Lafayette vs. East Carolina in New Orleans Bowl
Houston vs. Pittsburgh in Birmingham Bowl
Virginia vs. Oregon in Emerald Bowl
Iowa State vs. Ole Miss in the Independence Bowl
Cal v. Nebraska in Holiday Bowl
Texas A&M vs. South Florida in Houston Bowl
Boise State vs. Maryland in MPC Computers Bowl
Michigan State vs. Georgia Tech in Champs Sports
West Virginia vs. Arizona State in Sun Bowl
Purdue vs. Colorado in Insight Bowl
Wisconsin vs. Texas Tech in Alamo
Southern Miss. vs. Alabama in Liberty
NC ST. vs. Navy in Meineke Car Care
Clemson vs. Georgia in Chick fil A
Viriginia Tech vs. Notre Dame in Gator
Oklahoma vs. Arkansas in Cotton
Penn State vs. Tennessee in Outback
Rutgers vs. Akron in International Bowl
Iowa vs. Florida State in Rose Bowl
Texas vs. Utah in Fiesta Bowl
Miami vs. Ohio State in Orange
LSU vs. Louisville in Sugar
USC vs. Auburn in the BCS

I like all the picks except Utah, and having two SEC West teams in the BCS bowls. I also think Miami or Florida State will be incredibly mediocre. I'd add Notre Dame, West Virginia and a Pac-10 team like Oregon or Cal into the BCS mix.

Nebraska's backup QB from last year, Harrison Beck walked out of practice last week and was AWOL for two days before being released from his scholarship today. He's originally from Florida and may transfer to South Carolina or NC State. I know there is a Wolf Pack fan on here.
He was sitting at 4th string QB after spring practice due to a shoulder injury and was upset about not being number two. When the local paper called his mom, she badmouthed current starting QB Zac Taylor.

So the optimism in Huskerland has been tempered a bit by this and the injury to one of the starting CB's.

I guess it is still better than the OU situation or K-State, where 14 players failed conditioning tests and cannot practice until they pass them.

Nebraska QB Will Transfer to NC State

Pack Pride has learned that quarterback Harrison Beck is transferring from Nebraska to NC State.

Pack Pride has learned that quarterback Harrison Beck is transferring from Nebraska to NC State.
According to sources close to NC State, Beck is in Raleigh today going through the admission's process. After receiving a release from Nebraska, his acceptance into State is considered to be a formality.

Beck sat the first ten games of his true freshman year but burned his redshirt late last year for the Huskers, stepping in for a 27-25 victory over Kansas State on Nov. 12 after starting quarterback Zac Taylor suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter.

He missed his first four passes and threw an interception on the fifth, but Beck bounced back to lead the Huskers on a seven-play, 55-yard drive, capped by a game-winning 40 yard field goal.

He will miss the 2006 season due to NCAA transfer rules but will have three years to play three seasons for the Wolfpack starting in 2007.

As a senior at Clearwater (FL) Countryside, Beck was regarded as one of the nation's top quarterback prospects. He was tabbed a four-star prospect and the No. 11 quarterback in the country by Scout.com, choosing Nebraska over offers from Florida, Florida State, NC State, Michigan, Mississippi, and Purdue among others.

Stay tuned for more from Pack Pride!

We've got a few good QB prospects here now and coming in the next year, so I wonder how this will affect things.

I'm really not sure how well Harrison Beck will work out for NC State. His High School coach was an NC State player, which might help him out better there than it did at Nebraska. He has had some injury problems and looked questionable when he had to replace Taylor in the K-State game.
He was in some sort of Harcore band here and when he lived in Florida, maybe he'll start one up in Raleigh.

I just think it is funny that three former husker qb recruits ended up at the three major North Carolina schools.

Two weeks from tomorrow the CFB season starts. The AP poll comes out Friday. It will be interesting to see how close it is to the Coaches Poll and if either USC or Texas are #1.
I'm sort of think it will be Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC and Auburn.

Here's ESPN's first Power 16 of the season:

1. Ohio State (6)
2. Texas (2)
3. Notre Dame (3)
4. Auburn (2)
5. West Virginia (3)
6. USC
7. LSU
8. Florida State
9. Florida
10. California
11. Iowa
12. Oklahoma
13. Louisville
14. Michigan
15. Miami (FL)
16. Clemson

This is probably the most legitmate ranking I've seen yet, except I still think everyone is VASTLY overrating Texas. A VY-less Longhorn team is AT BEST a low-end Top 10 squad.

Auburn must have a good PR guy, everyone knows Lowder will ruin everything about thta school, much less the football team.

Also, how in the damn ol fuck did Clemson get on this list?

Georgia will win the East, but I will bet ANY amount of money that we don't top 30 against Western Kentucky. (worst team I have ever seen against patsies, and against the line)
