In all the Indie mishmash, this album has never been mentioned.
Guess it's not cool enough.

So, I would like to give props to this GODDAMN EXCELLENT album, while I'm thinking about it. Nobody has ever captured road-weariness, and nonetheless, the love of performing, like JB did all over this album.

Props.
This should be recognized by the Indie community for the classic it is.
And I wanna take that first step for it.

RECOGNIZE!!!

...and I step off my soapbox.

Browne cons: slick production, behaves like arrogant pricklick

Browne pros: damn good lyricist, vocalist.

I like Jackson Browne's music a lot and while I like Running on Empty, its one of his lesser good albums IMO.

He was in my top 100, I forget which album. I sang his praises a bit in CMJ days. Great hangover music. Decent albums up to and including The Hold Out, from there on it's just a few good songs on an album.

Definitely good for what it is.

Who would win in a tag team matchup:
James Taylor and Jackson Browne vs. Ray Lamontagne and josh Rouse?

Who wins in a Battle Royal with Ryan Adams as the crooked referee?

(note to self: stop watching wrestling clips on youtube)

agreed. Aside from "The Pretender" (sorry, a good song is a good song) and the fact that he produced and helped out Warren Zevon early in his career, I got little use for JB.

Ray & Rouse dominate with aerial moves early on until JT, pulls Ray to the outside and sends him into the steel steps. Browne takes advantage and works over Rouse who pulls the fantastic "face in peril" spots as JT and Jackson exchange tags. Rouse makes the tag to Ray, but the ref's back is turned and it is disallowed.

JT sets Rouse up for the "carolina on my mind" finisher, but rouse rolls out of the way and makes the hot tag to Ray- he cleans house and inexplicably screams at Rouse "That's how it's done" before delivering a vicious chairshot- he then takes the mic and addresses the fans as "Guster loving idiots" and asks if their kids are going to go home, drink a six pack and learn to rape"?

Rouse V Ray is set for PPV and JT and Jackson Browne did an excellent job giving the rub to a couple of younger guys to help get them over.

NEVER stop watching wrestling videos on youtube.

Though it's not on this album, "Boulevard" is an awesome song. Browne actually has quite a few great tunes.

PRO: Fantastic lyricist
CON: Woman beater
PRO: That woman was Daryl Hannah

Rouse is done for, because as soon as the first ringside chuckle makes its way to the hyper-sensitive ears of Lamontagne, he'll storm out of the arena, leaving Rouse to be bloodied by Taylor/Browne (a.k.a. "Fire and Reign").

something fine is his greatest song, off his best album.

And don't forget that SRV's Texas Flood was recorded in 24 hours in JB's studio for free.

And he convinced Daryl Hannah's parents that it was cool that their 17 year old still in high school daughter was in good hands with his thirtysomething johnson.

And that new acoustic album is great.

Most excellent, Phil... thank you for reminding all of us that he was Daryl Hannah's abusive mate... wonder why? I kid, I kid!

Anthony Kiedis + Willie Nelson? Yeah, I can definitely see that, too!
