No really.

I was half hoping that someone would do a definitive BOC mix. Outside of Don't Fear The Reaper which I love, I don't have anything by them.

Any suggestions? Perhaps a mix request even?

Me too. Their name popped up a lot in the Clash book and I dig the singles, but I've always been afraid that I would stumble into AOR/Songs -About-Wizards Hell.

I'm no expert, but from what else I've heard, it's not in the "Songs-About-Wizards" vein. "Burnin' For You" reminds me of Cheap Trick, and "Godzilla" reminds me of... maybe the Smithereens...

The re-mastered "Black and White" albums are pretty sweet. Radio Birdman named their debut lp after a line from "Dominance and Submission".

I guess I could do a BOC mix - but it'd only inlcude their first 3 albums, and nothing off Agents of Fortune, and DEFINITELY nothing after that.

Saw them do a show this summer. Its kinda sad because the cowbell is what defines BOC for everyone that has ever seen the SNL skit. They were also a bunch of asses, which i assume is partially from the skit, and also partially because their known for a couple of songs even if they've continued to play music for some 30's years afterwards.

Also, MORE COWBELL...

Blue Oyster Cult was my first concert ever and I still dig 'em.

Don't Fear the Reaper, Burnin' for You and Godzilla were their big hits. Their biggest selling album was probably Agents of Fortune, the one with Don't Fear the Reaper on it. Good, solid album with a lot of mellow kinda stuff.

Their earlier stuff rocks harder. Tyranny and Mutation kicks ass. You've probably never head any of the songs, but if you want something more than the singles and/or something to see what they sounded like when they were rocking out, grab it.

After Agents of Fortune is when their cheesy rock phase really started, but they still put out Fire of Unknown Origin later on, which was quite good.

So...my picks to buy...if you want more than just the hits...and in this order...are...

Tyranny & Mutation
Agents of Fortune
Fire of Unknown Origin

If ya ain't gettin' into into any of that, just forget about 'em, 'cause they're not the band for you...
