Just finished watching this on Showtime, and it's really great. Basically, Stewart Copeland bought a high-end Super 8 camera (with sound) back in 1978 and used it to pretty much chronicle every behind-the-scenes step of The Police's collective career as a band.

It's brilliantly edited, and Copeland's commentary as narrator is very insightful. Definitely recommended for anyone who likes (or even once liked) The Police. Great stuff!

I should also add that Copeland is one of the most criminally underrated/underappreciated drummers of all time.

I love hearing Copeland play. I also saw some sort of promo for this but haven't seen it yet.

Also, Bobbo, check your gmail, s'il vous plait.

When I saw Oysterhead the only thing I could do was stare at Copeland, with my jaw on the ground.

Yeah, but if you're younger than 32 or 33 chances are you don't know who he is. Synchronicity came out in what...1983? And he really hasn't done anything high-profile since.

Yeah, that's really what I was getting at about underrated/underappreciated. Plus, the default names mentioned in the "greatest drummers ever" discussion are always Moon, Bonham and Peart. Seems like Copeland gets short shrift.

One other thing this film reminded me is just how friggin' great The Police's "non-hit" deep album tracks were. "When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best of What's Still Around" is one of my favorite songs ever. "Secret Journey" is also pretty bad ass.

Kids today who thiink of them as nothing more than that "Every Breath You Take"/"Roxanne" band need to be edumacated on just how great these guys really were. Also, it pains me so much to realize just how badly Sting has caught TEH SUCK.

Hey, you calling scoring the Equalizer and Dead Like Me not high-profile? I mean they had The Wicker Man and the Alien Nation dudes in them and everything.

Yeah, he hasn't worked on becoming a star much, but I'll take albums like The Rhythmatist over a pop career any day.

The work he did on the score to Rumble Fish was also really good. You know, FT in his late teens looked more than a little like Stew Cope.
