Jeter is under-appreciated.

i know you live in the sticks, but you may want to read a newspaper or watch a sports-related tv program sometime to read/hear how much people constantly slurp him.

don't forget that jeter has the worst range factor of any al shortstop. also, just curious about who else is underappreiciated. maybe mozart?

z, i think slurp is a good word for it. mccarver wants jeter to fuck him in ass, no doubt. i will never forget mccarver's description of jeter's 'beatiful gait.' save it for the bedroom, tim.

the weird thing is jeter actually had a pretty good range factor last season and is now back in the cellar. his zone rating is also second-lowest in the AL.

mccarver, though, is totally in love with derek jeter.

That worst range factor sure helped him win Gold Gloves in 2004 and 2005.

I didn't mean he constantly flies under the radar or receives no accolades, I just meant general baseball fans, especially those with a hatred for the Yankees, tend not to look past that and recognize him for the player he is.

gold gloves don't really mean anything. they are not based on a single objective metric. if you think jeter was a better definsive ss than cabrera, tejada, or young in either of those years, you're insane.

i guess all of the mvp consideration talk by the national broadcasters of 2 networks this weekend does indicate a certain ignorance of his abundant talent.

the award is subjective, yes; however, Jeter when he first camer up was subpar defenisve player at best, and he has grown leaps and bounds since, and is only getting better. worst range factor is just another nonsense stat as well. gold glove does mean a little something.

range factor accurately calculates how well he fields his position relative to other players at the same position, taking into account that he's not going to be charged errors on balls he can't get to. and just so you know, his ridiculous jump throw that he does all the time when he goes to the backhand is done on plays that would be routine for an average ml ss. so don't be foolied into thinking he's making an amazing play just because he makes easy plays harder than they have to be with his limited range.

so, to conclude, you are saying he's a defensive upgrade from the players i listed?

you and me are going to come to blows one of these days. who do you think those broadcasters are talking to exactly? they seem like morons to me, so they must be talking to these so-called 'general baseball fans.'

by the way, did anyone appreciate joe morgan's inability to describe the location of a pitch, constantly being shown to be incorrect by 'k-zone?' and then he kept blaming it on k-zone!!! it was incredible.

i tend to mute any broadcast with joe morgan announcing, so i don't quite get this. what exactly was he blaming on k-zone - that it was incorrectly showing where the pitch crossed the plate?

yes. he would say a pitch jammed a hitter, then k-zone shows it's out over the middle of the plate, sometimes even on the outer half, and he would be like 'well, it's over the plate on k-zone, but it was actually inside. at least 10 times. awesome. incidentally, k-zone makes inside pitches look outside regardless of which side of the plate the hitter is on.

One can talk TO people 'til their heart's content, but it doesn't mean the people listen.

But, really, my competitive nature is near nil and to have gotten this far in this thread is quite the accomplishment for me. Basically, I like baseball, I like the Yankees and I like it when they win. I'm not going to roll over and not defend my favorite team, but I'm not going to go out of my way to be argumentative.

Worst weekend ever?

I moved all weekend to my new place and I now have no cable/internet at home for 10 days.

Fuck you all.

On a baseball note, I'm ready for this season to come to a merciful end.

as long as jason hits as he has been hitting, he can grow a third ear for all i care.

btw, that sac fly he hit was about 4 feet from being a grand slam last night as well....would have been three homers and 8 rbi's on the night instead.
