That's where I started.
And I really need to go further.

Great songwriter.

No.

Greatest Hits is not indicative of their ambient/proto-modern rock quotient. It makes them sound more like a folk band then they really are. Scott did several folk albums, but that's not all the Waterboys were about.

You need to start with A Pagan Place and This Is The Sea

Frig, in fact, I should put together a mix this weekend.

I agree with the 'spoon. In fack, with the exception of "Fisherman's Blues", those two albums are the only Waterboys you really need. And whatever you do, DO NOT bother with their recent "comeback" reckid. That thing blows chunks the size of baby rhinos.

(although Mike Scott has put out some extremely good solo albums)

yep, that's a good one.

when my ex was booking a local singer-songwriter, he wanted to put his artist on tour with the waterboys, or somehow get them connected. naturally, his first stop was waterboys.com. yeahhhh... don't go to waterboys.com unless you're into some good old fashioned water sports.

If your overused picture of the Pope's 'nigga please' is the blaze of glory of which you speak, I'd start looking for a new blaze of glory if I were you.

You need that album. We used to do that tune and When ye go away. That album is 100% goodness.

I just bought Fisherman's Blues having never heard a note of this band and wow - so good. Especially the title track. Its one of those songs that hit me immediately. Now I need more.

Am I the only one that really likes Room to Roam?

And, totally different, more rock and without the folk leanings, their debut EP with A Girl Called Johnny was really good.

I like all The Waterboys albums and Mike Scott's solo albums. I just like a couple others more than that one.
