Led Zeppelin's In Through The Out Door is waaaaayyyy underrated.

But the correct answer is:
The Zombies - Odyessy & Oracle

(or that Nick Drake one, good call Mick)

Now that we have those who didn't muster sustainable careers out of the way, I'm going to throw out Warren Zevon's The Wind.

It may not be the best, but it immediately popped into my head. It's a rough damn ride, especially with the pleas to Open up, open up on "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and the Oh fuck I can't cry at work "Keep Me in Your Heart".

And in true WZ style, he mixes in enough fun to keep it all from being a wallowing sadsack affair. "Dirty Life and Times", especially. It's not WZ's best work, but I grade him on a curve simply because he was friggin' dying, and recording in lieu of treatment.

Let's do another bad one, then. 'Cause I like it when the blood drains from Dave's face..

The Beatles - Abbey Road

(Let it Be doesn't count as Abbey Road was the last album they recorded together. The Get Back Sessions that were grave robbed and thrown to the public were recorded prior)

I would have gone with Camper Van Beethoven's Key Lime Pie, but then they made another album 15 years later.

...Still has not gotten any of the love it should have, not their best album, but still great.

Dismemberment Plan-Change
...that is if you're not counting that shitty remix album

Velvet Underground-Loaded...Duh

and the end all be all...My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
I think I've finally accepted that there will never be another MBV album.

Duh? It's great, but it's not their best by a long shot.

Yeah but the point of the thread is best final album, not that their final album was their best. It's comparing to other peoples final albums.

I was interpreting it as the latter, final album's that turned out to be the 'best' out of an artist's work. This is what happens when people don't define their terms.

Sam Jackson needs to help people define their terms.

good call.

plus, which do you consider nirvana's last album? "in utero" or "mtv unplugged in ny"? either one's a solid curtain call.

I probably fall in the column of not being sure of what the thread is asking. Best final album by any band, or the final album by a particualr band being the best of all artists?

1965 is not my fave Whigs record (Black Love is), but its a mighty fine final album for the band and id put it up there amongst others i have heard.
