<--- can't believe "This Is Hardcore" came out in 1998. Jeebus. Feels like just yesterday.

Those first two Pulp records were the soundtrack to much of my late teens/early twenties. I never owned anything by them but--good lard---were my friends obsessed with them.

You know which song I love by them? "Mile End". I believe it's on the Transpotting soundtrack. To me it is part II of The Jam's "That's Entertainment"... and I guess "Common People" is part of that as well, lyrically.

I used to hear "Common People" in bars when it cam eout and think it was just another silly, vapid brit-pop song... until one day someone pointer out the lyrics to me. So heavy. Really brilliant.

i absolutely love "this is hardcore". there's something very sad about it that get's to me. especially "help the aged", that song always makes me teary eyed.

it's my favorite Pulp album by a landslide.

i haven't heard any richard hawley stuff, i wish jarvis would do some solo stuff too.

you mean other than that Live 8 song? yeah. Although that song he did with Johnny Greenwood was plenty underwhelming.

do you mean it and freaks, or 90s albums? cause i'm a huge pulp fan and those first two albums are pretty bad.

and pulp is definitely a band to listen to. i will never forget the first time i heard them - terribly hot and humid day, so bored, sitting in some kid's apartment in nyc, listening to different class on repeat while some art students played chess. by the end of the summer, i had almost everything they'd released until then.
