Modest Mouse have set a December 19th release date for their upcoming album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank which Modest Mouse leader Isaac Brock describes as a "nautical balalaika carnival romp."

The band recently added Johnny Marr to their lineup and the former Smiths guitarist reportedly contributed to songwriting as well as performing on the album. He will also be joining the band on their next tour.

The band released Good News For People Who Love Bad News in 2004 through Epic Records.

I defenitely want to hear it, but im falling slowly into the category, you hear one Modest Mouse record, and you pretty much heard em all.

I hope it isn't a nautical balalaika carnival romp.

has anyone heard anything about Jim Fairchild from Grandaddy being in this band now? He might just be a touring member, but I swear I heard something.

Do they think they're the Liars now? What's with that title?

Um... quite. Listen to This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About and Good News For People Who Love Bad News back to back and say that again.

I'm still baffled at Johnny Marr's decision to be so heavily involved with a band like Modest Mouse. I'm not saying they're not worthy. It's just odd. I can't wait to hear the album though.

I think those are pretty dissimilar albums. If you can't tell them a part it's probably just because they both reach such a level of awesomeness that the particulars of their awesomeness get a little cloudy.

Liars wish they had one shred of the talent Modest Mouse has...and MM has been doing the long titles for some time now (longer than Liars at least)

For Example
-This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About
-Talkin' Shit About A Pretty Sunset
-Whenever You Breathe Out, I Breathe In

Its ok to be wrong sometimes.

I'm wondering how much an influence he was in the studio.

I got into Modest Mouse late making 'Good News...' one of my first of theirs, which is probably why I like it more than some people.

I'm interested in the new stuff.

And most critics' year-end lists come out around December 15...and only 6 days for kids to put it on their Christmas lists? Hmm...

i love everything they've done

well
sad sappy sucker is kind of weak
in comparison to the rest

so i got a chubby about this

its hard to top lonesome crowded (or insert your fav mm album here)
cause
when you listen to something a thousand times
you attach all kinds of your own memories to an album
and the time period of your life then
you expect newer to be better
right from the start
you set yourself up for disappointment

but im smarter than all of you and
i dont do this and i
realize that all of there albums
are friggin top notch and
kick the shit out of belle and sebastian
