Keane singer treated for drug use
Keane frontman Tom Chaplin is being treated for drink and drug problems, the band have confirmed.
In a statement on the band's website, the 27-year-old said the time had come "to get the professional help I need to sort myself out".

Earlier this month the band cancelled shows in Edinburgh, Dublin and Ibiza, saying at the time that the singer was suffering from exhaustion.

They have also postponed a North American tour planned for next month.

Chaplin's statement said: "I've been having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out.

"I feel desperately disappointed to be letting down our fans, but I want to get myself right now so that I can be back on the road for the rest of the year."

The band, who played at last weekend's V Festival, said refunds for cancelled concerts should be sought at the point of purchase.

Keane, who also feature drummer Richard Hughes and keyboard player Tim Rice-Oxley, won two Brit Awards last year for best British album, for their debut Hopes and Fears, and best British breakthrough act.

Two years ago, they topped the BBC News website's Sound of 2004 poll of UK critics and broadcasters, which focuses on up-and-coming acts.

Their follow-up album, Under the Iron Sea, entered the UK chart at number one in June.

well, if I were the singer of Keane, I'd imagine having to do tons of blow just to get on stage every night and pretend that I have talent.

Obviously Keane had to cut out the drugs and drinks habit since they might run the risk of actually sounding exciting and interesting.

As for

Fuck off! What sort of name is that? That sums Keane up perfectly. Nice, posh boys who would be better employed judging the Best Cream Cake competition at Silchester village fete.

Shouldnt it be Time Rice-upon-Oxley?

Or would that have been Tim's mom.

I heard them for the first time about a month ago. Some friends of mine are big fans and had the new album. Sounded alright to me. Some of it was actually quite nice... sounds like it comes from the U2/Coldplay good guy, revelation-inducing school of commerical pop. There's something in there that's nice and actually works, mixed in with the over-use of a now sure-fire formula: "born again" sounding vocals delivered from a nice guy, progressively-rising keyboard-string lines, a little bit of "wild-ish" drumming thrown in to keep it "edgy", etc.

I dunno. It confuses me. The stuff I liked was very nice, but the rest sounded like the soundtrack to one of those car commercials that seems to promise spiritual-revelation-through-car-buying.

Perhaps their dark side is due to collaborating with Irvine Welsh on the 'Atlantic' video:

they're good live. there's energy and tim r-o is hot! i think i over did it with that first album, where i just got sick of it. it wasn't the victoria's secret commercial that made me hate the song. it was me over doing it with the cd.

I happen to love their first album.

I've only heard a couple songs from the new one, I ended up buying one of em from iTunes.

I like Keane. Their new album is good. It gets a few spins 'round the Rabbithole. I would see them live most definitely.

well, apparently this guy's the one on crack.

a good voice does not equal good songs or a good band.

I enjoyed this story more the first time, when it involved Charlie and DriveShaft.

no, but a good voice adds to a very talented band of musicians.
