Best College Football programs that produce NFL talent.

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/ ... l0608.html

Here is the most overrated list/most underated list from this poll.

MOST UNDERRATED

Among 250-plus schools that sent alumni to the NFL, these produced players who performed better than their draft level would have predicted..:
SCHOOL DRAFT VALUE
1. East Carolina 66.8
2. Arizona 60.3
3. San Jose State 50.9
4. West Virginia 50.0
5. Colorado State 46.5
6. Baylor 46.1
7. Indiana 44.8
8. So. Mississippi 37.6
9. Georgia Tech 34.2
10. North Carolina 31.2

MOST OVERRATED

...while alumni of the following schools performed below the level their draft status would have indicated.
SCHOOL DRAFT VALUE
1. Texas Christian 8.2
2. Oregon State 10.7
3. Miami (Fla.) 10.9
4. Oklahoma 12.1
5. Arkansas 14.6
6. Wisconsin 15.4
7. Ohio State 15.6
8. Georgia 15.8
9. Oregon 16.0
10. Utah 16.2
Underrated: Schools whose alums made fewer than 112 appearances on NFL rosters last year weren't included; Overrated: Schools with fewer than 40 Draft Success Points weren't included.

I think that's pretty fair

so, if ND sputters a bit in getting past Ga Tech, does Texas leapfrog the Domers to set up a #1 vs #2 matchup in Week 2?

Nah, but I wonder if Texas would have to soundly beat OSU to leapfrog ND, or would it only take a mere one-point win over #1 to give them the nod?

I think a 1 point victory would get them the bump...esp since they're the defending champs

The winner of the Ohio State/Texas game will be number one for a considerable amount of time this year. I'm a little surprised USC is as low as they are, but I think it is a fair rating based on the probability of them making the title game unscathed.
I like the fact that more than two or three teams received more than one first placed vote. I don't like it that Michigan jumped from unranked to #14 this year. I can see Iowa doing that, since they are sort of the Auburn of the Big 10 this year.
Nebraska is about right, even though I'd say they should be about #18 and ahead of Clemson and Michigan.
I think TCU, Oregon and Arizona State are going to jump in the polls fast, I think Oklahoma will drop fast as will Notre Dame if their defense struggles against Georgia Tech or Penn State.

OSU plays at Iowa 3 weeks after playing Texas. Might not want to put that one in the win column just yet.

Who says I think OSU will beat Texas. My personal opinion right now is that Texas will get lucky and remain unbeaten until they play at Nebraska or Texas Tech. I think Ohio State is probably the better overall team, but I like Texas's Defense against Ohio State's offense. If Texas had to replace a ton of defensive stars like Ohio State, I would have gone with the Buckeyes to win a tight game.
I think that if OSU does win in Austin, it will propel them to the title game in a similar manner as Texas. That means they'll have to come back and beat one of the worst Big ten teams and barely beat Michigan in the final game.

Sports Illustrated Bowl Projections
BCS Title: Ohio State versus Notre Dame
Sugar: LSU vs. West Virginia
Orange: Auburn vs. Florida State
Fiesta: Texas vs. California
Rose: USC vs Michigan
International: Toledo vs.Rutgers
Capital One: Florida vs. Penn State
Gator: Miami vs. Nebraska
Cotton: Oklahoma vs. Georgia
Outback: Iowa vs. Tennessee
Alamo: Texas Tech vs. Wisconsin
Chick Fil A: Clemson vs. Arkansas
Meineke Car Care: Georgia Tech vs. Navy
Champs Sports: Michigan State vs. Virginia Tech
Sun: Louisville vs Oregon
Insight: Purdue vs. Iowa State
Music City: Alabama vs. BC
Houston: Baylor vs. Pittsburgh
Emerald: Fresno State vs. Maryland
Las Vegas: TCU vs. UCLA

I don't like the 2006 Fiesta Bowl rematch for the BCS title game. I figure Notre Dame will falter, but still probably make a BCS game again. If Notre Dame does make the title, I expect them to play an unbeaten Pac-10 or one loss SEC team. I also don't like Michigan in the Rose. They won't improve that much from last year, I'd take Iowa for the 2nd BCS team from the Big 10.
I'd really hate to have to play Miami in a Florida based bowl game again, I'd rather be in the Cotton with Georgia or play in the Holiday bowl.

There are rumors that former Arizona State QB Sam Keller, who was named the starter and then told he wasn't the starter after his teammates lobbied for the other guy is trying to transfer to Nebraska. He has one year of eligibility left, plus a redshirt year.
It wouldn't help Nebraska this year, but would make them stacked at QB for next year.
He might also transfer to Colorado where his former position coach is the Buffs OC.
College Football News had ASU near the top of their QB unit rankings.
Georgia is the number one running back unit.

I'm only posting this because I know it will piss some people off on here and thought they might chime in about it. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the list.

Overrated teams according to pre-season polls going into this year
West Virginia, Penn State, Florida State, Notre Dame, TCU and Virginia Tech.
The author says that Penn State has the recent M.O. of one good season followed by two crappy seasons.
He also says that besides Brady Quinn and Jeff Samardzija, the rest of Notre Dame played no better and than they did under Willingham and maybe worse last year.

Underrated teams
Texas Tech, Iowa, Georgia Tech, Utah, Clemson and California

I happen to agree with Georgia Tech and think Cal, Iowa and Utah should be getting more publicity, but not sure if they are really underrated.
I don't see how two teams from the ACC are underrated, especially Clemson.

Because Miami, FSU and Virginia Tech get all the pub, and that's pretty much it.

i don't think it's absurd to say that penn state's overrated. they lost their quarterback and a lot of defense, but morelli was somewhat impressive in a few series last season and their defense seems to always be good.

doesn't TT make this list every year? I've been hearing about clemson since the end of last season. I don't know if I would consider them underrated.

We'll find out real soon if GT and Cal are for real.

I don't know if Texas Tech is consistantly on the underrated list, but they seem to be the team in the Big 12 that never receives any real hype. They are kind of viewed like Houston was in the late 80's and early 90's, an offensive juggernaut with a decent defense that annihilates a bunch of soft opponents, but can't compete with any of the BCS schools with a stout defense.
I think they have been ignored recently because everyone was always hyping Texas A&M or Missouri the last few years. When they beat Nebraska for a second year in a row last year and beat Oklahoma, I think alot of people started to believe in them. The Holiday Bowl game against Cal two years ago was a big help too.

We'll find out real soon if GT and Cal are for real.
