Saw it last night for a review running Friday.

Lots of fun if you're at all a fan of the group - the half-dozen musical numbers are great and (obviously) play to Dre and Big Boi's strengths without dragging the movie down and never feel like they were just thrown in to eat up some time.

Didn't realize going in what a great supporting cast there is; Ving Rhames, Terrence Howard, Ben Vereen, Cicely Tyson, Macy Gray and the dude who played Radio Raheem in "Do The Right Thing". Collectively (Howard especially) they help cover up or pick up the slack for Dre and Big Boi, who do surprising well on their own in carrying a movie.

Big Boi is the biggest surprise of the movie. Totally steals the show from Dre - who looks a little lost on screen at times — and is a ball to watch in every scene. Dre had the harder task in playing a guy who's awkward and kind of misunderstood, but that still doesn't let him off the hook for a mostly flat performance. But when he's performing all is right with the world.

In summation, thumbs up. I'd gladly drop some coin on this and likely will w/ some friends on Friday.

i would be interested in seeing it. In the couple movies I have seen andre 3000 in he has not been at all bad. He was decent in Four Brothers which was a mediocre film. But, I also really like Marky Mark too.

I will forever associate the word "Idlewild" with The Allman Brothers.

Interesting (maybe) trivia: there's a town in upper-lower Michigan called Idlewild that was a huge black entertainment mecca during Jim Crow days. Since blacks weren't allowed into clubs, entrepreneurs opened up their own and turned the place into a kind of black Las Vegas.

That spirit is very evident in the movie and when I interviewed Dre in 2003 (when this movie was still in the conceptual stages and had a VERY different plot but was called "My Life In Idlewild") we talked a little about the real-life town.
