Do not use a proxy, as far as I know. (Which is why I should probably ignore this SOCKS shit, eh?)
Do not use a firewall that I know of, but we do use a router (at work: an Efficient Networks router, and at home: an Asante router, I believe), and I suppose there might be a firewall in there?
This does not work at home nor the office.
