Nobody releases an album a year anymore!
And they've all been GOOD, too!

Good for them!
Hooray for The Decemberists!

my love for the decemberists began and ended with castaways and cutouts. haven't liked anything since.

(sorry to rain on your parade, todd. i'm happy that you're happy that they're putting out boatloads of albums.)

eh... i think they're tremendously mediocre and have written the same song at least a dozen times. some of their singles have been good, though. but, if you can stand listening to an entire album of meloy's voice over the same rhythms over and over, big ups.

It's not only the voice and rhythms, but also the word "parapet".

James and Jasmine: Have you heard the new one (The Crane Wife)? It's actually a bit different than the others. Sure, Melloy's voice is still there, but there is no saying that this is the same-old-same-old.

Before this new one, although I am a fan, I could agree with your sentiments.
But...
Damn this new one is good.

ah yes, i remember that... then again, i think i would've lost some interest in anyone put in that position after what we'd witnessed a half-hour prior.

yeah and all their albums are good - pretty amazing. ive only seen them live twice but were excellent both times. got this jaded portland crowd excited, even, not an easy feat.

you guys really need to check out that tarkio album from earlier this year. 2 cd's of colin's pre-decemberists band from montana. as good as anything on castaways and cutouts.

According to Katie's interview with Colin, they had 22 songs to pick from. If that's true, I ask you, how did a snoozer like "You'll Not Feel the Drowning" end up on the new album?

perhaps if you put the word "pimp" in your name, your thread would've gotten more attention.

just a suggestion.
