here's my take on Ash

Trailer - pretty great debut album, considering they were just kids. lots of neat punky pop gems.

1977 - disappointing overall, though the album does contain "Goldfinger" which is one the band's best songs ever. "Girl From Mars" is ok, and "Kung Fu" is cool (though the Angus Soundtrack version is better), and rest is just mid-tempo pop/rock with not nearly enough hooks.

Nu-Clear Sounds - initially i thought it was crap. lots of 4+ minute songs that turned me off like 1977 did. listening to the album right now though, it's A LOT better than I remember. Vocals are incredibly improved over the early stuff, some tracks are pretty catchy (though still on the slow side). "A Life Less Ordinary" (which can be found on the movie soundtrack of the same name I believe) is a definite keeper.

Free All Angels - what a great comeback album. people who don't have their heads up their asses and like Weezer's Blue AND Green albums should check this out immediately.

Meltdown - Along the lines of FAA, and it def. has it's standout tracks. Probably the slickest album production-wise, so take that for what it is worth.

Anyway, that's my recap of the Ash discography. Give Nu-Clear Sounds a listen again if you didn't already trade it in for something else.

They'd do covers of things like The Cult's "Love Removal Machine" and The Alarm's "Sold Me Down The River."

But they'd sound like Silverchair doing Black Crowes.

I used to love this album.

I have NO idea what the hell I did with it. It's vanished from my collection.

Preach on, brother.

As for Ash, I'm a 1977 man. I think that it was even in the lower half of my listmania. "Goldfinger" is one of the best songs ever.

Same here...they got me on a blind buy via the $6.99 price + a bonus DVD. But I haven't listened to it in forever. ( tosses CD in his "work bag" to rectify that tomorrow nite )

Oh...& paper - you barely beat me to it. :)

Paint-by-numbers punk pop, too timid and frightened to color outside of the lines. Conservative, conventional, and mostly inept.
