right now there is something like 11 lighters sitting on my dresser. I forgot all of them coming down here, and bought one on the way. That was STOLEN from me last night, and i'm using an aim 'n flame to light my cigarettes. damnit.

How the fuck am I gonna light my pipe over a stovetop? Though, you gotta admit, the comedy factor on trying would be priceless!

well, i used to have to resort to my dad's matchbook collection as a kid. Actually, all 5 of the kids did. Our strategy was to go to the closest places to where they live, thinking they'd get back there for more matches, eventually. About a year later, we're were to Texas. Man, we were terrible kids.

pretty much. I had this overwhelming urge to confess this to him earlier tonight. He called me to tell me about his diagnosis and as a result I told him about the matchbooks and the one time when in 7th grade he caught me smoking. He laughed and it didn't make me feel any better. boo.

he's honestly the strongest person I know. He had a liver transplant 18 years ago and he's run 5 miles a day since I can remember. I think he's really just come to the point where he's happy to see his grandkids and appreciate every hour he's got. It's heartbraking and incredibly encouraging at the same time.

I did, though, find out that my special lady friend has a serious hospital phobia. I thought it was cute, but she's embarrassed.

she IS my special lady friend. I just refuse to use the term "fiancee". I think it's because I've wanted to slap a few dozen people when they use that word. Not that it can't be used tastefully, I just resent people using it just to broadcast the cast that some jackass gave them a ring.

Btw, I know how your lady feels. When you have the numbers of two local hospitals on speed dial and after visiting way too many times at the hospital for my mom (and dad), I absolutely hate going into one.
