Since they've only had four albums in their 25 year history, and those albums are all comparatively short and filled with long tracks, those two mixes contain at least 60-percent of their output. But, yeah, the rest of the tracks are good as well. Mostly all one tone, but a brilliantly executed tone combining regret with tender yearning in ways few others have. They're too often compared to Brian Ferry, but the difference is Ferry has slick unctiousness coating his romance. There's a reptilian showman in Ferry completely absent in Buchanan's delivery.

The detractor comments I can understand are The Blue Nile has recorded the same song 40 times. I see it as a 40-movement lifelong suite, though.

Somewhere I read Peter Gabriel copping to the fact that his vocal on "Red Rain" was a direct attempt at singing like Paul Buchanan.

Audience Member: "They all sound the same!"
Neil Young: "It's all one song!"
