discs are worse than flash for working out, that's a reason.

i know my wife would rather have something small than a 30g, even if they were the same price. irrational, i know.

I originally got the nano for myself, thinking along the lines of "Hey, I could just switch out the music I want to listen to on a particular day." I quickly learned what a PAIN IN THE F'N ASS that was, and switched to the 30gb, never looking back.

But then again, I'm not a chick, and I'd probably get my girlfriend exactly what she asked for in your situation.

Seems like a no brainer, right?

FEMGAR wants the nano...her birthday is in 2 weeks.

My feeble mind can't understand not getting the better product for a little more money, but the nano is "cute"

and yes, I understand I could probably get it cheaper, but this being dat birfday, we need dat engraving.

Smart ladies tell me what to do.

Dana?
Red?
Ayah?
Tania

You gots to just get what she wants. However, dat engraving will lessen dat resale value, if that means anything to you.

The engraving absolutely MUST read EXACTLY as follows:

"Why can't I quit you?"

Hey, iPod users, my best friend's husband gave me an iPod shuffle. I've already got the iPod software on my computer from my last (now dead) pod. Do I have to reinstall the software, or what? I suppose I could just plug the thing in and see what happens, but that's too easy.

What is the verdict on flash vs. hard drive for wear and tear? The nano is flash, yes?

Also, doesn't the nano power up differently?

Who cares - never get your lady something else because you "know better." That's a fucking insult. If I had a time, I could think of a good analogy, perhaps using beer. Get her what she wants.

If I were doing this for my fiancee, I'd probably get her the Nano. Somewhat similar situation, I think.

As it is, I'd more or less given her my Mini (that I got for free), and she never filled that up (same amount of space, I think). Cuteness factor, if you're not dealing with a serious music fan, is really more important than the drive space, I think.

Only problem with the Nano that I know of is that there aren't any nice cases for it to keep it from getting scratched. The only ones I've seen were pretty ugly, thus defeating a lot of the appeal.

Interesting. I did not know that about the cases. I was gonna get one of those armband thingies for working out, and of course like flowers and shit.

Good thing is, we are gonna be in Dallas, for some wedding shower thing with her parents' friends, so I get out of organizing a party.

The case I have for my Nano is amazing. Best ipod case available by far. I'd look it up but im lying in bed.

let me echo the "get her what she wants" advice. the flash memory will also likely have a longer life than the teeny-tiny hard drives that can be fragile.

Yeah, if that's what she's going to use it for a lot of the time. And when on a treadmill being able to strap it to your arm is a whole lot less annoying than having a larger one that you have to either carry or somehow rest somewhere without catching your hand on the headphone leads and knocking it to the ground (from experience).

I'd want the 30gig, but if it's a Nano she wants...

I realize that it's not one of your listed choices, but I'd get a Sandisk Sansa e260. For about half the price of the Nano you get the same 4 gig memory plus an FM tuner, voice recorder, and video capability.

Now the question: Black or White?

Fundamental difference between the two of us...I never know what I want, yet am always dissapointed by what I get. She wants to know exactly what it is, preferably weeks in advance, AND a price tag.

She doesn't know that there are black ones, I don't think. she said she like the look of that Chocolate phone, but doesn't want a phone/ipod combo...hence I am considering the black one.

Or, if the Brokeback route is already too played out, perhaps another Heath Ledger film could do the trick. Go with Monster's Ball:

"Make me feel GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!"
