Tower had a buttload of CDs marked down to .49 cents, so I grabbed a handful. You ever done this? You quickly scope them out, and if they're on a good label (Sony  ), or if they're produced by someone you recognize (T-Bone Burnett), or if the cover grabs your eye, or...

Plus, Tower's having the buy 4, get one free, so this applies. Already, the Piebald (Candyskins, anyone?) disc has made the purchase worthwhile, and the Rusty Truck is kinda cool, in a country sort of way (guest artists: Jakob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Gillian Welch, Lenny Kravitz, Willie Nelson, etc).

Can't go wrong with an Ian McCullough single: Sliding- accoustic, Planet Song and Jealous Guy (yep, the John Lennon tune).

Other artists: Hundred Reasons, Tom McRae, Josh Ritter, Jesse Malin (produced by Ryan Adams), Delicate AWOL, Steve Reid, Kevin Yost, Ricky Peterson, De La Soul (OOOH. Single, w/ remixes) and Pat Green.

It feels like old times, to go to the register with more than one disc in your hands. Sure it's a crapshoot, but's a cheap crapshoot.

Please vote- your country is depending on you.

I have rarely had any sucess with the crapshoot. I do like that Submarine Song by the Canyskins.

I'm intrigued by the rusty truck, and I really like that first Jesse Malin album.

That Tom McRae album is beautiful. It's definitely one of the more overlooked albums of recent years.

In fact, I'm going to grab Just Like Blood right now and give it a listen.

Rusty Truck is a happy accident. The project came together in 1998 when celebrity photographer Mark Seliger gave songwriting a try just for the sake of doing so. With his countless connections in entertainment, Seliger was encouraged by Jakob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, and the like to make the music thing real. Seliger, drummer Joey Peters (Grant Lee Buffalo), guitarist Michael Duff (Chalk FarM), lap steel player Andy Gibson (Hank Williams III), bassist Sheldon Gomberg, guitarist Ben Peeler, and vocalist Kristin Mooney solidified things with a deal with Coda Terra in 2001. The band's debut album, Broken Promises, which included appearances from Lenny Kravitz, Gillian Welch, and other rock & roll favorites, was issued in fall 2003.

AllMusic

Mark's got a good voice.

I remember this vaguely. Sounds kinda like "Countrysides" with guests. Any chance of a YSI.

I echo the Malin statements. Liked the first one, but haven't thought about anything after that.

Haven't thought about the Candyskins in a while either, but they good.

At this point, I value shelf space more than any of those CDs.
